Engineers Incremental engineer ranking/ mod levels

There are many threads highlighting how to "jump" ranks or mod levels with engineers e.g by giving more exploration data/ bounty vouchers and so on.
What I would like to know is whether the mods "stack"......i.e. all the Beta Vids I saw had our trusty You Tube heroes maxing out the level 5 mods for insane amounts of fish and rolling the wheel of fortune etc.....

So question is.....if you take for example a Shield booster mod. If you do level 1....then 2....and so on all the way to 5, do you actually increment more than a straight "no-mod" to "5* mod"??
Anybody tried it to see if there is a difference? On any mod?

No stacking. What level you pick to mod is what you are going to get afterwards. It even shows what you lose when you apply the mod after all the rolls are finished.
 
thank you Sir.....so I should in theory then wait, carry on with my own game and strategy, picking up mats and cargo as I go and just fire straight for the level 5 then! (well, maybe an incremental step along the way)
