incurance idea

There have lots of posts about it but tonight I felt the blunt of it as id done a 4-6 day grind for 48.8millon to buy in orca but no way to tell the inc cost that was 2.4mil before purchase so I thought i could get it back safe to my home trade route how wrong was I due to the short fsd I went the wrong route landed up running out of fuel and having too self destructive & as I didn't have the 2.4mil safety lost 48.8mil, My thoughts on how inc should work like it is in real world full cost should be refunded but your premium goes up or like other mprg your in a - until you pay off the debt maybe a 3-5% total cost increase for every 72hrs your in a - that way people that lose 40million+ ie 4-6days of grinding won't get disheartened as much & get a chance too work it off, don't get me wrong I really love elite, I remember going into Mr disk in Birmingham buying frontier elite II for my Atari 520 ST was epic. I'm not moaning or crying just maybe it needs a tweak to the system just my thoughts

Facepalm - It's 5%, it's always 5% it always was 5% and probably always will be 5%. It's really very simple to work out.

However from a business viewpoint it makes no sense whatsoever, the insurance company is out to make a profit and this model can never work.
A more logical system would have you make a payment every few hours perhaps every 10 hours of play something like this:
first 100 hours of play: 10 payments of 2% ship value
next 500 hours of play: 50 payments of 1% ship value
next 500 hours of play: 50 payments of 0.5% ship value
next 500 hours of play: 50 payments of 0.25% ship value
thereafter free

Resets to 0 on ship destruction.

This would allow the insurance company to make a small profit and would reward careful drivers with the "no-claims-discount" after a lot of play.

You could of course fly without insurance but then if you lose your ship, you really lose your ship.

I can see this being about as popular as pubic lice so I'm not suggesting it as a game mechanism but as how such a system could actually work if some degree of realism was wanted.

Realism is the last thing gamers want: You press the repair button and a message pops up:
"Well mate, it looks like a complete rebuild and I'll have to order some parts and we're really busy at the moment so come back next week, no make that 10 days and we'll see if it's ready, no promises though."
I can see that going down really well in a real-time game.
