General / Off-Topic Indianapolis 500

The Indianapolis 500 ABC TV coverage will start at Noon EST time this Sunday May 27th (4:00 PM in the UK) wondering how may others on the planet will be watching. 33 race cars start going around a 2.5 mile oval at 220 plus MPH. Half of them won't make the finish line.

The Monaco Grand Prix will also be covered starting at 9:05 AM EST on Sunday in the USA with ABC and ESPN covering the event.

But turning left and right at slower speeds is different versus risking your life at 220+ MPH with wind, weather and driving in heavy traffic deciding your fate. Monaco has lots of pleasant visuals while one drinks their favorite European wine and d'oeuvres. In the USA we like hard drinks, beer and chili cheese fries!

Indy is much more serious pushing the limits of technology, speed, endurance and surviving it without injury. The drivers put it all on the line. That it is why the Indy 500 is the ultimate accomplishment in racing sports. Win the Monaco you have better options for the next season. Win the Indy 500 and write your own ticket...if you survive. A sudden change in the wind can end getting to the finish line or worse.

Regards

It must be monotonous.

F1 races are definitely more exciting in the world championship

:D (;))

If you wanted to present a more exciting motorsport discipline, you chose a wrong one, tbh. :D
F1 is subjectively even more boring than Indy cars and NASCAR. I'd rather watch them.
Naturally, if I had a choice, I'd much rather watch Rallye or Rallycross.

But like with all else in life - personal preference. :)

WRC FTW.

Impossible to be boring.

Unfortunately, this is also my poison partly because I have actually done it a long time ago when I was younger...not seriously but the point being that not just anyone can participate in track racing, and if I cant personally feel that adrenaline rush, I lose interest as all Im doing is watching someone elses adrenaline rush.

I love cars, have a real passion fer them in real life...unfortunately, none of the cars I love are american so why I would watch them racing around a circular track of never ending laps is quite an alien concept to me.

Now if intentional ramming was not only allowed, but encouraged, then itd be fun to watch...which is why F1 doesnt float my boat either.

Gimme an old mk2 escort, couple grand and a month in the workshop and Ill give ye a car that can take a fire road 90 degree hairpin in the mountains at 70, and still hold the road. Fer the same money in F1, ye couldnt even afford a single tyre and bits fall off after a strong sneeze ^

I ran a couple of amateur rallies with an old Renault 5 Turbo in the 90's when I was young and stupid. Worst tin can I've ever owned, but one hell of a mule.

Used to do Banger and Stock car racing in the late 80s was a lot of fun.

It is the Monaco F1 Grand Prix this week end. No contest really, it has more corners for a start. For the American folks here, a corner, is the place you have to turn the steering wheel, more than 15 degrees.

All the pilots dream to win in Monaco

:)

Meanwhile over in the civilised lands the second greatest GP of all will be taking place in Monaco. This involves tackling a few more than just 2 bends and a car that will turn right as well as left.

Drift is better.

Followed by drag racing.

The girls are hot.

Oi! I'm a hormone driven young man!
