Indicator for reverse.

Can we have flashy lights and maybe that beep beep beep noise like trucks do when reversing please?

I don't know how many times I have been wondering why I'm not getting closer to something only to realise I'm still in reverse from whatever I was doing previously.

So an indicator to make it obvious would be nice please.

I use both Throttle and space dust.

The problem with the throttle and dust is it only shows you going backwards when you're actually going backwards. If you just wanted reverse for a sec to do a manoeuvre (and you're using a button to reverse thrust) and the button click didn't register you don't actually know it's not doing what you want until you're horribly out of position. This was less of an issue with my first x52 but my current x52's reverse thrust button only works like 50% of the time. An obvious indicator would make it less of an issue.

Clearly a thinly veiled request for a "Luis" covas!? :D

ps. I usually have my throttle on full range but I can see a possible problem at least, that the OP might be having.

Why not use your throttle and set it up for both forward and reverse. Not reverse when using a button that might work?

No idea about FA-ON, with FA-OFF the throttle indicator clearly shows that it is in reverse. I personally use a rocker switch on my throttle for reverse thrust.

I'm always in favour of UI usability tweaks, particularly obvious and low effort ones.

I think something as simple as having the throttle meter change colour (or possibly flash mildly) when in reverse would be a considerably more readable visual cue than the current little horizontal line that switches polarity, which requires a little more focus than what pilots would like to spare when in tight situations.

Or a different engine sound.

Or make the proximity lights flash in a different colour.

Or or a smegging beep beep beep

Anyway I'll test using the throttle in full range as it will free up a well placed button.

I use a button for reverse - It would be great to use the dividing method - but I end up having the dead zone so huge to cater for panic reversing that it's a pain.

And now the D button on my X52 stopped working most of the time so I mapped the I ring to reverse thrust and that works OK... ish.

X52 Amatuer. [No, a pro but its Really Really Old. Like Me.]

A green arrow pointing forward, or aftward for REVIN [REverse INdicator], would be a super Ad. Thrusters offline? Red plus add eg. a checkerboard hash or slash, a visual change to make the colour-peception-challenged CDRs Happy[-er].

Can't recall exactly how many times I've hit reverse when docking, logout, get some gnosh [no pints- 12hrs bottle to throttle RULE] and forget that I went reverse before going Feets Dry. Yes, the speed indicator does start at the forward instead or aftward edge- but that is not visible until actually Trying It Out.

There's no visible indicator, no fallback options eg. "stick yer sorry head out the cockpit and EYEBALL/VERIFY LG DN" [Landing Gear DowN/[SAFE]] until throttle is applied. Want to verify? The "Hey, Watch This, Hold My Beer First" crowd can be ... entertaining [usually ending badly ...] ... ckout the LG DN on a Spitfire. Those clever Brits, can't see the gear fm the cockpit but there is a[n] [air turbulance/lift killer] tab indicator poking thru the wing when LG DN.

BTW gr8 idea on splitting the throttle- tactile feedback at center/zero throttle isn't there, but its something. Something known before the actual try-it-and-see method.

A clearer indication of reversing would be very useful.

Why not change the throttle colour to yellow when in reverse.
A nice easy visual prompt.

I use full range throttle on a hotas and don't feel any need for this but I see no downside to having an indicator. The idea of changing the colour works for me. I wouldn't want a massive "YOU ARE IN REVERSE" message front & centre ;)
