Indicator types?

I thought I'd ass this as a new post, rather than ask in a different thread where it will probably get lost...

As you are flying around, specifically in supercruise, you see the little flitting lights of other ships in supercruise, but you also see other reticles around certain objects. One is like an open/close brackets ( ) and another is a diamond shape - what do these signify?

  • Green - friendly ships
  • Yellow - neutral ships
  • Red - hostile ships
  • White - non-ship objects (e.g. missiles, beacons)
  • Asteroid outlines are shown in asteroid fields.
    Ship Markers

Depending on what the ship is doing, the markers will change:

  • Square marker - hard points retracted
  • Triangle marker - hard points deployed
  • Flashing-white - this ship is firing at you!
You can also work out what sort of player is on the scanner:

  • Solid marker - NPC player
  • Hollow marker - human player

Those brackets you talk about are areas of interest, so to speak, there may be missions relating to them. Some of the say 'Strong signal sourse' or 'unidentified signal source' these can be approached just like a station to investigate. Beware though, they may contain pirates etc waiting to kill you arnd steal your cargo or collecta bounty on you. etc the diamond type shapes, are I assume brokenlines? these indicate FSD trails, the point a ship has left your area.

Ehm... it happens to me not to be true: I only see solid markers even if, when I target them, they appear to be CMDRs.
Infact some days ago I was flying with no worries to be attacked by some pirate or griefer because on my radar only appeared solid markers. All of a sudden I am interdicted and after a rapid check on the radar I decided to submit because I saw a solid marker indicating an easy to swallow fool NPC pirate. When I emerge from SCruise I find myself attacked (and killled) by an Imperial Clipper and a FdL and the last screenshot told me "You were killed by CMDR XXX".
Now, the question is: I agree that human griefers and pirates are a part of the game but why can't I be able now to tell them from NPC and therefore prepare myself to defend or fly in the appropriate way???

That's definitely a bug. I think I saw a report of the same issue by somebody playing the Mac version(?). Either way you should stick a post in the bug reporting forum so Frontier can get it fixed.

There's two square shape icons on the radar have their hard points retracted triangular shaped contacts signify handprints deployed. Of these there's two variants solid coloured filled in is npc. Hollow shape with only a coloured outline is a player
