Indonesian Roofing

just starting trying to build something in this theme (I know, like 3 months after release lol). Just wanted to ask if anyone else finds the angled roofing pieces to be very different from most of the other sets, and not at all easy to implement in designs? There's no gridded angle pieces, nothing seems to fit unless you're doing a 1 square building and it all just seems a lot harder to implement than other sets have been.

Wall pieces are the same as always as are flat roof pieces, no problems with those, but these angled roof pieces? I can't say I'll ever use them since they are so cumbersome to try and fit like other roof sets.

I agree that they are far harder to implement, but using the 'align to surface' and 'position snap' can be a lot of help, as they'll make the roof pieces add onto each other properly while you can also use it to make the first roof piece align properly to a gridded piece (e.g. a floor).

I'm really not a fan of the increase of catering to the advanced builders/people who have an abundance of creativity.
Biggest reason why I'm finding myself increasingly not wanting to play this game is that I load up a map, my brain proceeds to go static mode at seeing a big empty space, and then I close the game again.
That, or I just reuse the same scenario map over and over and over again, specifically the onewhere you just have to fill the habitats/exhibits. At this rate the Arid pack is probably going to be the last DLC I buy for this game, because frankly it's just starting to make me feel like I'm not creative enough to play this game.

Actually - yeah, until the devs remember they have casual players too, I'm done with this game until further notice.

I can understand that point of view, but I have found over time that building even simpler things led to a broadening of what I was able to do. I'm definitely an amateur builder....probably somewhat high in the lower parts of creativity, but still below average. It took time for me to learn how to do even simple things, beyond just building four walls and a roof (which I still do sometimes). I can now do simpler domes. More creative domes and underwater tunnels will continue to elude me. There's a lot on the workshop or facebook/reddit/forum pages that I look at and am stunned at the skill, but never looked at those as goals to have. I've mostly made my newer zoos buildings from scratch and I'm okay with them and feel like I have a relatively simple but passable understanding of how to use building and scenery pieces. This particular set though..I just gave up on the building I envisioned because of those angled roof tiles.

As @Aramar said, it's fine to have pieces that are geared towards the more creative and elaborate builders, but there should always be some type of gridded option for the basic pieces. The set has walls and flat roofs on the grid. Every other set has gridded angled roof pieces - unless I'm forgetting any but I think they all do. Maybe it was an error in coding that these were not included on the grid, which can likely be fixed. Or maybe it was a design choice that is intentional, which is disappointing. I still consider building about 25% of my enjoyment with the game, but not when I can't figure out how to use something at all.

Bumping this up again because the Oceania angled/slanting roofing is also not on a grid. Frontier, please please take a look at these. This is a QoL fix...I'm not sure why the decision was made to stop putting slanted roofing on a grid, but it's detrimental to building at best. The flat roofing on these sets are on a grid, slanted roofing up through and including the Twilight pack are on grids as far as I can tell.

I love this pack and the building pieces for it, just from looking at all the pieces, but this is the one major pain with it. It's why I haven't really done much in the Indonesian theme, but I like the whole of the Oceania theme so much more and I want to be able to build with it without getting constantly frustrated.

You can use the "snap to position" button to snap it to a grid piece, and use that as a way to line it with the grid, then delete the grid pieces you used as a guide. It's a valuable skill to have when building.
Thanks Leaf, I will try that! I don't mind work arounds if they're simple like this, but I still think they should make the coding of these roofs as all the other roofs are.

I must be doing something wrong, but I still haven't figured out how to do this properly. I would appreciate if you could make a quick video tutorial whenever you have some free time. I was trying to use the new Oceanian roof pieces for a squared simple building and I gave up and ended using the African gridded roof :ROFLMAO:

I’ll do a quick short on it soon. Need to get my content lined up for some big stuff anyways so I’m happy to do so!
