Infinite NPC Interdictions

Hello @fdev! I am requesting an immediate fix to the infinite NPC interdictions happening in-game. It has proven to be very costly and annoying to build my simple outpost in my T9 while being infinitely spammed by interdictions and occasionally destroyed. After trying to go 50 LS and being interdicted 3 times, I can't say it's my fault that I got destroyed. In fact I'll never, ever acknowledge it's my fault for faulty game mechanics.

For you own sake, please fix this. Another patch or content update that does not contain this fix will not be acceptable.

Meanwhile, every other spaceship trading game which allows the fitting of weapons to your ships at all expects you to use those weapons to keep the cargo safe. ED is unique in having pirates but it being considered a bug if they do anything to attack traders.

If you're having trouble with interdictions that you can't beat by any of the following methods:
- use SCO boosts and varied approach angles to avoid the NPC establishing a tether at all [1]
- beat the interdiction mini-game to leave the NPC dropped in normal space where they can't bother you
- kill the NPC for having the temerity to attack you
- as a last resort, dump some of your cargo to distract them while you run
... then you probably need to rethink your approach until you can. Use a more agile ship than a T-9 to make the first two easier. Fit a SLF hangar and some weapons and defences (and maybe switch to a Cutter or Corvette or Anaconda) to make the third easier. Make some friends and ask them to escort you (or they haul the cargo and you escort them, swap around for variety)

In the long term, if you can survive a little more, building some structures which increase the system security level will help reduce the amount of piracy which goes on. There are some cheap-but-effective options there.

[1] The "75% at 6 seconds" recommendation is one published and promoted by the Association of Starving Pirates to give their members a chance to catch you. Definitely don't do that.

This is why I run a 520t corvette for my hauling. Not just because it can pack over 3k shields on a size 6 prismo and still jump 32ly fully laden, but because unlike the T9 or cutter shaking an interdiction isn't like pulling teeth.

Honestly considering giving up a ly of laden capacity just to give it some guns that actually work and cutting the knot.

You don't fix something that's not broken.

Care to share the build of your T9 please?

Superlatives. It’s the way of communicating nowadays I guess. That thing is the worst ever. The other thing is the best ever. Something else is an existential crisis. And so on.

Now we have infinite interdictions. Really? How many did you really have? Having the same unfortunate thing happen to you over and over in ED is usually a sign to folks that maybe they should be doing something differently.

And requesting an immediate fix to your issue, of course, is another superlative.

Well let me tell you that your situation is not infinite; a very non-infinite version is something that you can experience in game and there are simple adjustments that you can make to your play style to make interdictions an infrequent occurrence that you can easily deal with.

There has never been an infinity observed anywhere, except in mathematical calculations, and when they occur in mathematics associated with anything in the real world, it is universally agreed, that there’s something wrong or that we don’t understand because infinities do not exist.

Using superlatives is now the way that some people communicate about their situation, and the general way they are interpreted by readers is best summed up with this: 🙄

«Infinity is nature's way of telling us "you have no idea"»😉

Losing 200 tons of capacity is a big ask when building a system. It may come to that if I decide to build a new system that's got longer runs than my current system.

I may look at it after the server tic, I think I have enough spare parts laying around.. I don't know what I like more, building ships or systems... 🤔

Nah, just get a Cutter.

Although I do appreciate some people would prefer something that turns a little better.

And something that they have access to... I was working towards it, but my dislike of wide turning radius of large ships, particularly in supercruise, made me abandon the effort.

To me, the biggest fail of Trailblazers is not releasing another large cargo ship.
