Influence as a Mission Reward

I've got close to a thousand hrs in ED however its unclear (to me) how the new "Influence" reward works in mission payouts. Whats the purpose of influence and how is it applied?

Does gaining "Influence" from a mission payout:

- Increase MY influence with a given faction (the mission giver)?
- Increase the influence of a particular faction (the mission giver) in the BGS?
- Increase MY influence in directly effecting the Boom state etc in the BGS?

IOW: Why/When would I want to select "influence" as a payout and what would I use it for?

Thanks in advance...

I get the thing with Rep of course... And I have a very lucrative system which it appears only myself and a friend have been working, so I want to know if this "Influence" payout can be used to push or keep the system in "Boom"...

Anyone?

1) No. That's Reputation.
2) Yes. The non-influence options also do this, just not as much. Additionally, some mission types affect the influence of the destination faction - this probably also boosts that effect.
3) Uncertain, and extremely hard to measure.

Broadly, you'd use it if you want to maximise how much influence the faction gains from the mission.

EDIT: if you're actively working the system, then it doesn't really matter - most of your activities will keep it in Boom. The tricky thing will be making sure that no *other* states override the Boom - use +INF missions for non-controlling factions to efficiently keep the controlling faction below 75%.

INF is the influence gain for the faction that gave you the the mission. It affects the BGS - things like war or elections and ultimately decides which faction can gain control over stations or outposts.
Boom (and similar states) are not directly affected by the influence, but things that increase the chance of boom will positively affect the influence of a faction. (successful trade missions will count toward boom state for example - the amount of INF gain doesn't matter).

REP is the reputation you gain with that faction. Reputation is your status with that faction (hostile, unfriendly, neutral, cordial, friendly, allied). Better REP with a faction will give you better missions.

If you are not interested in affecting the BGS, then the INF reward is completely irrelevant to you.

Thanks everyone!

I guess the big takeaway for me is that Influence does NOT effect Boom. I typically don't have any interest in manipulating the BGS unless it would effect Boom (and payouts).

I therefore don't have much use for it... Maybe someday...
