Hi to you lovely new forum members. :D

Here are a few bits of information on what you need to enjoy the game.

We have another thread giving the latest news here.

Current updates - Latest Info which is updated as soon as new info is released.

Alpha, Beta and Gamma Dates.

Alpha is now live, this will continue until Frontier decides that the game is ready to goto Premium Beta (1st stage), this is scheduled for early 2014 at the moment, but Frontier will announce details when they are ready to proceed.

Currently these are set as follows.

Alpha Phases 1.0 started December 2013 (£200) includes expansion pass
Alpha Phase 2.0 started 4th of Feb 2014 (£200) includes expansion pass
Beta Phase Premium Beta (formally 1st beta) to start after Alpha has finished. (£100) includes expansion pass
Beta Phase Standard Beta (formally 2nd beta) to start after Premium Beta has finished. (£50)
Gamma Phase to start after Standard Beta has finished. (£35)
Commercial release end part of 2014

With the new upgrades option you can now include your original pledge in your price when upgrading to a higher level. This includes the expansion pass

Please note: These dates are estimates and can change.

Specs for Alpha stage of Elite Dangerous

Direct X 11
Quad Core CPU ( 4 x 2Ghz is a reasonable minimum)
2 GB System Ram (more is always better)
DX 10 hardware GPU, 1GB video RAM(my reasonably low end machine has a GTX 285 with 2GB) Minimum video ram spec updated to 1GB.

Registering for the backer app.

When registering please remember to check the requirements for the captua code. It is not the full code but a section of it i.e the 1st 3 characters.

If you still have problem email support@zaonce.net

When you first register on the forum, it takes a little while for your access to certain areas to the forum to become active i.e the Alpha section; this usually takes about 24hours but as things are quite busy at the moment this can sometimes take a little bit longer. if after 48 hours you have not got access, email support@zaonce.net

Differences between the original backers app and the new store

When the Kickstarter was running and until it closed in December 2013 the original backers app covered your pledge level and listed the associated rewards you had earned for backing during the Kickstarter campaign.

With the new store you are now only seeing your original pledge level, all the rewards are still stored in the original backers app with Frontier keeping records on your rewards and pledges.

As the rewards are no longer available to backers they can only back the game not receive the rewards that were offered during the Kickstarter.

As mentioned before the Kickstater rewards are still there in the original app and FD know what you are entitled to.

We hope this helps and if you have any questions feel free to ask around or search the forum to see if it's been discussed before. If there's any info you think should be added let us know and we will look at it. :D

Upgrading from the Kickstarter

If you wish to join the Alpha testing phase, it will now cost you the full amount i.e £200gbp.

I'd like to further support the game development and I'd like to gain access to Alpha but an extra £200? I'm afraid that just ain't going to happen.

Thx for the reminder T.j.

If you pledged during the games kickstarter campaign below the Alpha level of £200gbp i.e at beta or premium beta, you cannot now upgrade to the Alpha level using your original pledge money as part of the process. While I understand we cannot upgrade our early pledge anymore for the goodies and bonus I still don't understand why we should buy the game twice to get access to the test now. (Alpha and Beta premium).

I can't afford the Alpha anyway but I would buy a beta premium access if this was still an upgrade of our previous pledge.

I gess it 's not such a big issue as I'll wait for the release instead of giving a bit more money to be include in a beta test session. :)

but I keep thinking it is counter-productive and a nonsense for the game development.

Well this is only my humble opinion ;)

Since I subscribed to the 'Kickstarter, Digital download'; do I have to order the Digital download twice in order to get the 'Expansion pass'?

I have the digital download pack too (80£ pledge in the old store). I don't believe I have to order anything else from the new store, in order to be eligible for receiving the expansions, since that was included in digital download pack.

Am I wrong?

Thanks for replying BoldRover. I believe my digital download in KS was 20pounds, the Expansion pass would be 35pounds; total is 55pounds....

But you also got second beta, digital download of soundtrack and novella, multiple starting points with different ships and creds, reserving commander name, etc.

Whoops! my mistake: My Kickstarter for this game was 30pounds; so my total w/ the Expansion pass would be 65pounds.:p

Shame they don't actually give any technical reason why, guess that would spoil the sales pitch.

Edit: The reference I found "Malicious Site: Malicious Domain Request 2" has no details, but I'm guessing it's a false positive on the AWS CloudFront resource links as they use odd looking domains such as "https://dozdbxp384be6.cloudfront.net".

I pledged £37 on the Kickstarter (though I now think I will start with a Sidewinder), so already have one copy of the game. If I then get involved in the Beta through the store, will I then own two accounts?

Yes - to be safe though (if you want to do this) use a new email address for the Beta account.

*shakes the water from behind his ears*

Sorry if this is annoy and/or the wrong area to ask the questions but

if someone can help me understand how to gift the seccond Alpha I bought I would appreciate it. This seems to be in the ball park of the right place

Thanks
MrChaos

edit: The answer appears to have been given to me so I think I'm ok now.

In the spirit of full disclosure I also removed the excessive amount of the letter c in appreciate too ;)

Pricey testing

I too would love to get in on the testing of your game. But really can't justify paying nearly $400 Cdn for a game that's not yet been released.:S That's more than I've paid for any lifetime subscription for a game.

I'll guess I'll have to wait till the game is in a more affordable beta or commercial release. :(

I have a question:

is it allowed to sell an original backer account?

I would like to buy a Beta Premium pack but I don't need 2 copies of the game of course. So my idea is to "give" my backer account.

I don't even know if it is possible considering I need to keep my Kickstarter account...
