Information about Multi Core

I'm just hoping to run this game at 60fps @ 1920x1200 (with Vsync on) Pretty sure I am going to need to get a new GPU though.. I am hoping an R9 290 will be enough for that but I am going to wait until the game is out proper to upgrade..

I wonder if they will add AMD Mantle support too..that thing can increase performance by 25-50% ( allegedly.. :D )

Good point, I have high hopes for my MSI Geforce 680 Lightening to be able to run this at 1920x1200 with 2x AA @very High.

I am going to wait for Refresh of MAXWELL GPU Before jumping the upgrade band wagon in Q4 of 2014.
AMD Mantle can be a real game changer if it can increase performance by 25-50%. I heard AMD Mantle drives have been delayed.

As far as I know Battlefield 4 Mantle tests were done just recently and gains were smaller than advertised. Said that, it all comes down to optimization, and also type of the game played.

Well, actually AFAIK the test results were mostly on the mark - meaning that depending on the hardware setup, from negligible (<3%) to 50%+ :p, mostly between 8% and 30%. Which, being free, is great.

Interesting that it appears to be using the 4 cores.....many games still don't really take advantage of that.

I remember a post that they do have a 32 and a 64 bit executable. So we will have both when the game releases and I am sure we will get the 64 bit version to test at some point.

As for mantel to soon to say what the impact is and how widely used it will be. Maxwell is an unknown quantity and no idea of it's performance so will have to wait and see. Rumors say it should be a massive boost but as in all rumors take with a grain of salt till known for sure.

I monitored my processors in the waste disposal mission yesterday. i4770k four cores with hyper-threading. Only 4 of the cores (thread processors) were being utilized. Not sure if E: D checks the physical core count and runs within those limits. Going to monitor factions today and have a look.

I have core temp and gpu meter running all the time so i can see what each game is doing, this is a screen shot i took while destroying a canister in the first scenario.

CPU temps are a little high but I'm waiting for a new cooler to sort that issue out and also allow me to overclock the cpu, it's not an issue with Elite just a hardware problem i've been having since i added a couple of extra drives and the bigger video card.

Anyway here's the image.

The Windows Executive - thread scheduler - does this in concert with the BIOS, by preferring to spawn threads on real cores. The app can be coded to further improve its execution in a HT environment however.

Thanks @Squicker.

Tried the Factions mission today I reversed until I had most of the hyperspace jump points in view than just sat and watched the show. All 8 of the thread cores utilized to around 50%.

Frame rate around 58 FPS at worst. However the graphics cards were very unbalanced during this test, one was running at 100% while the other stayed below 50%??

Towards the end I noticed an Anaconda with a large amount of damage so I flew in close to have a good look. A few seconds after leaving it to fly on, the screen went black but the audio kept playing then another 5 seconds after E: D crashed, so I submitted the crash report as requested.

I assume it may be related to the GFX driver and the unbalanced cards. Strangely enough both card temps were still at around 70 degrees C, well within comfortable limits. However I am about to install the new Mantle enabled beta driver, might be a good test to see if this causes issues with E: D next week.

Are they NVIDIA cards? If so, one card has to run PhysX so takes more of a hit, but I don't really know how deeply that can affect a performance mismatch. If it's AMD cards, then I don't know if they have something like PhysX at all...

AMD 2x 7970s, usually they are pretty evenly loaded I think this was either an AMD driver fault or an ED 'not yet fully optimized' issue.
