Ingame encylopedia.

My brother bought the game a few days ago we have been playing together since then, and we have realized there's no help inside the game for new players or for whoever doens't forum lurk that much

For example, he got an invite from Felicity Farseer to visit her workshop, and to do that you need 1 unit of meta-alloys.

He: "What are meta-alloys and how do I find them?"
Me: They are produced by the barnacles which were found bla bla bla, to get them you go to Maia bla bla bla..."

There is no info at all inside the game about the happenings in Maia, the crashed ships, the barnacles, or even the materials for engineers produced there.

I think an ingame codex, similar to what was used in Mass Effect could do a lot for the game in both help for the players and shape the galaxy's lore.

For example, it could be divided in categories.

-Humanity timeline in the conquest of space. From the first space travels, to the generation ships and beyond.

-Who is who in the galaxy. From the three big powers and the important people there to other organizations like the Pilots Federation, the Children of Raxxla or The Dark wheel. This could be exapanded with some others factions which take part in the storyline of the game, like the shady Wreaken Corporation.

-The plotlines. Mysteries and rumours. A detailed view of past and current plotlines and what has been found. Colonia, Maia and the sightings, the Formidine Rift, the Guardians' ruins and lore, etc.

-Ships and Technology. A detailed database of the different shipyards, the ships they build and all the modules inside the game.

-Materials and software. A brief description of each material and software used for engineers and a rough guide on where to find them.

The list could go on. As you have proabably guessed I'm not a good writer, but that's the general idea, a ingame codex containing everything in the game without the need to use Inara or the forums to get a grasp of what is going on or how to find ingame stuff.

Regards.

I totally second something like that. An encyclopedia in-game. It wouldn't require that much work to implement (a few new UI elements, content added progressively). It wouldn't have to have everything but at least give a good source of basic knowledge for players. Especially for the lore if anything.

Galnet sort of does this.

But I agree, far to much information is only available outside of the game.

If it's too much work for FD to type all this out, they could have some sort of Community Encyclopedia, where CMDRs submit their own. Kinda like in game Wikipedia. Lol

I doubt very much they would do that and Galnet .. doesn't do that. Galnet is for news really. Often gives information that is actually meaningless to players who are new and don't know what's going on in the game.
