Ingame technology developpment : limit ?

what will be the most spectacular or powerfull technology limit ?

jumping in wormshole to travel "faster" than light ?

something else ?

which technology would you find funny or very usefull (and coherant with background and gameplay) ??

Will technology be static or evolving ? Who finances research ? how does it work ?

Interesting questions. Yes technology will evolve, I have no doubt about that. It will be paid for by the factions, military, corporations, rich goverments and the like. In an evolving galaxy there has to be evolving technology.

Hyperspace is always an impressive thought, travelling light years in the blink of an eye, simply awesome.

I would like to see transporters like star trek. That way you could transfer between ships stored in different systems without having to fly all the way.

Good question!
We're starting the game in 3300 where direct jumping has just been invented. (Hyperjumps do not take time while it took hours/days in elite/ffe/ffe2 to make a jump of 7LY)

With that feature as a given the known universe can expand dramatically faster than before and natural resources will probably once again become the "go to" factor. Basically: if you have the galaxy lying at your feet, you will go and live in the best places available.

If that arises a need for technology or if that gives some pause to technology remains to be seen. I would want to know what that "technical breakthrough" for instantaneous-hyperjumping is based upon. If it is based on new science then maybe that science can be used for multiple things and can be expanded upon. If that science is old science with a smart tweak then nothing much of science development can be done on short terms. (As the new jumping technology is based on previously unknown / unheard of "dark systems" my guess is that it is the first option and therefore new science may arise out of this technology.)

Unless, ofcourse, in our extended travels we encounter artifacts, races or other stuff that triggers us to look differently to the universe and puts us back on the development bandwagon. Then we MUST explore science with a much higher pace.

Owh yes... I cannot wait to see that galaxy unfold!

I do not think technology will evolve much more than at the beginning of the game Let us not forget that the time in the game will be the time in reality. So even if we play for 10 years, it will also be 10 years in the game. And in 10 years, progress will be made, but in reasonable quantities.

I kind of want to agree with Patrick, but at the same time I feel it's dependent on what actually happens in ED.

The 19th century was a time of massive technological leaps for mankind, the early part of the 20th century was similar, with governments willing to make massive capital outlays - sometimes just to boost their nation's global footprint (think US vs. Russia space race).

If the year 3300 is on the cusp of the next technological leap, we could see enormous changes in technology - even in as short a time as a decade (think end 19th, early 20th - powered flight, cars, breakthroughs in medicine and weaponry). While we can assume that the last 300 years hasn't been one of stagnation in the Galaxy, 3300 will introduce a huge driving dynamic (the player base) into the Elite Universe, who knows what our influx will produce?

There's also the Thargoids to consider, they've been "asleep" for a long time and it's fair to say they're going to wake up grumpy, war is always good for technological progress.

Yes, I agree with that. And human civilization can also be inspired by technology Thargoid or other civilizations that Frontier can create, if their technology is more advanced
