INRA is attacking Federation and Empire ships with the mycoid.

Yep, sorrp OP, but the mycoid virus was deliberately designed to be harmless to humans and human tech. It targeted the biopolymers the Thargoids used in their hyperdrives, stranding their ships, and apparently infecting them as well.

Very little about the mycoid virus was deliberate, and viruses mutate. I agree with you in principle and think the OP is NOT onto something here, but yeh...

No please. Not that soft adult series for us SF fanboys.
I want the original Cylon type Thargoids with the glowing red single scanning eye and huge metal armour. I want my cigar smoking Starbuck with the devil may care attitude flying a viper out of a battle star that actually looks like a war machine and not some lady's toy.

You get 30 seconds after she says "Are you alive? Prove it!"

She gets uploaded - you... don't... er... wait a minute... I've never seen my own escape pod... Oh my... does that mean...????

BTW.. What's INRA? I haven't played ED for a while.

Ooh, ooh, let me answer that one.

Back in the First Thargoid War in the early 3000s, the Empire and Federation (the Alliance didn't exist back then) formed a united military structure to counter the alien threat: the "Intergalactic Navy". Affiliated with this was the Intergalactic Navy Research Arm, a clandestine group which studied the debris from the few human victories over the Thargoids, looking for some means to defeat them. Eventually, they found just such a means: the "mycoid virus" which attacked the alien ships hyperdrives, and may even have infected the individual Thargoid crew as well. The Thargoids disappeared from human space shortly after the mycoid virus was deployed, never to be seen again. Until a few months ago.

The Intergalactic Navy claimed victory and promptly disbanded itself, allowing the Feds and Imps to resume their pre-war squabbling. But, rumour has it, the INRA never disbanded, it remained a secretive joint Fed-Imp anti-alien taskforce, watching and waiting for a Thargoid return or for any other alien threat to appear.

All of which was lore from the old Elite games, which may or may not have been retconned - but since then (since version 2.4 dropped, actually), abandoned INRA bases have been discovered on several uninhabited planets, thus confirming the past existence of the INRA in the ED universe.

We now have AEGIS doing much the same job as the INRA used to do, except that AEGIS now includes the Alliance. One could reasonably assume that any surviving remnant of the INRA has been assimilated into AEGIS. And they seem to be actually much better at making anti-Thargoid gear and distributing it to the general public; as far as we know, the only thing the INRA ever did was to make the mycoid virus.
