insane bounty

So I took a mission on the BB to deliver 17 units of gold for I think 140k credits. Brilliant. Fast as can be I accept it, launch, and go to lock my destination. Then I notice that I've been fined. In my hurry to get it and get paid I think I failed to notice that it was "stolen" gold. The initial fine was around 250k. I didn't make the deadline to pay it, and a bounty was placed on me....a 500k galaxy wide bounty. After making it into dock in Styx, I see the bounty listed in the contacts as 850k.
Here's my problem, I only have 140k-ish. I don't really want to have to run and hide constantly early on in the game, I've only been playing for a few days. I'd rather be clean and legal. Is it possible to carry on with this bounty on my head (without looking over my shoulder constantly) by staying out of federation systems until i can pay this off? Or am I screwed? If a player collects my bounty, does it go away? I think I understand that fines carry over through death, but do bounties as well if they are collected by a player? What are my options here?

Buy a sidewinder, get killed by another player. Therefore you only lose the cost of the sidewinder. And at the same time, make another CMDR a very happy chap!

Edit: Or just ask for a stock sidewinder replacement after being detroyed, and sell it for your money back perhaps? Exploit found?

So a player killing me and claiming the bounty clears it? Is there any way to chat system wide to invite the kill? :)

Well I went to Eranin, found a CMDR at the nav beacon, and got him to kill me. Had to pick the fight, shot his viper once, 200cr fine, no big deal. But it seems my bounty is still there. I even snuck into Chango to check it in the contacts, still there. I do now though, show a new 24 hour timer for a new fine (I guess it's new) for hte exact same amount as my bounty....

So it looks like a player killing you does not clear your bounty? This is getting frustrating.

Well, it clears the bounty but you then get a fine equal to the value of the bounty to prevent the obvious exploit. It's just that last bit is not implemented yet.

OK, so the fines seem to be really...odd in the game as they stand. Finally paid off the previous bounty, took on a full load of cargo and lifted off. Station auto-turrets immediately opened up on me. Absolutely no idea why. Before I died, I saw a 200cr fine pop up on the info pane (there really needs to be an in-game log for this info). After getting into my new ship and paying off the fine, I jumped a few systems, then noticed this.

Yup, a 4.2 billion credit fine. Billion, with a B. Oddly though, no fine shows in the transactions tab. Think I'll just wait to play till after the Gamma reset. FML....

4.2 Billion! . . . Where did you say you were again? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

0-4,294,967,295 is the range of a 32 bit unsigned integer. Looks to me like you've found a bug whereby a larger value than the outstanding bounty was deducted when it was converted to a fine upon destruction. As negative numbers are impossible in an 32 bit unsigned integer it has wrapped around to the top end of the range.

Definitely something you should ticket.
