Quick question - is there any way to see the owner of an orbital installation? Perhaps I've gone mad but I think I remember this used to show up in the FSS. I know they have never been visible in the system map. But as far as I can tell, currently the only ways are to either go there and check in person, or get lucky and catch the station news feed while the installation is at stake in a war.

Secondary question: installations owned by anarchy factions come with a bubble of lawless jurisdiction. Am I correct that attacking ships in that bubble has no BGS effects since no crimes are committed, or is it more subtle than that?

If you target them while not in Supercruise the owner shows on the left side of the HUD (in SC you just get the distance/speed display).

Dockable starports and outposts can be targeted from anywhere in the system of course, but you can also just check their faction owner in the system map. Installations on the other hand are only targetable either in SC or in normal space when you have dropped into their instance, and are not shown on the system map.

Assuming you've scanned the system or the Nav Beacon at some point (or it's an auto-discovered system), space installations all show up in the left-hand Nav Panel. As long as you're in normal space anywhere in the system you can target them in turn from the Nav panel to see the owner. No need to actually visit them. Not ideal but it works.

I agree that I'd like them to be shown in the System Map, and also have the owner's name shown in the detail menu that appears when you select them in the Nav Panel. That last one looks like an oversite when they added the detail menu and presumably could be bug-reported. I'll try and find time to do that later to see if we can get it onto the 'to do' list.

With the exception of Anarchy-owned installations. If there are multiple Anarchy factions in the system you can tell one of them owns it but not which.

Aha, that does the trick! I guess last time I tried, I must not have fully resolved the system yet. But I tried this today, scanned a nav beacon and then I was able to target the installations and get their info. Thanks!

Fortunately that's fairly rare. And even then there's not that many cases where it would matter which Anarchy faction controls one. My major use case for them is as an easy source of black market goods in otherwise lawful systems. Which is actually why I was concerned that I'm not harming their BGS standing by pirating their ships for illegal goodies.
