Ship Builds & Load Outs Installing PDTs and Packhounds on the same ship and actual effectiveness of PDTs

Hi all,

since a couple of days I've been trying to integrate packhounds into some of my builds, e.g. on my Corvette - armed trader. Due to the fact, that I want to defend myself against hatch breaker limpets, missiles and probably even reverb torps, I have installed a pair of PDTs. I find, the frags are not that usefull for such defensive purposes on a Vette, because they are weapons of rather short rage and Vette is quite long. The spread and so on. The Pacifiers are availaible only as class 3, so also not a real option. In total the frags would not be my choice to kill opponents torps or missiles in this case.

As far as I understand from the description, PDTs shoot at every missile/torp in range, so even at my own launching munitions. Is that right? Is the intention something like: "if you want to kill the opponents with missiles, you also should not be defend yourself from those" ?. I've not use the missiles since my career start two years ago. At that time they was not very efficient for me and I even haven't had Horizons (so no engineering). So I've not really tracked their development until now.

And the second question is, of course, after all the updates, nerfs and buffs: how effective is a PDT nowadays? Lets assume, I have two Packhound-Racks and my opponent has two PDTs, one on dorsal and one on ventral side. How many of my 8 missiles will reach my opponent?

Thanks in advance!

As far as I'm aware they don't attack your own missiles. I can't recall it ever happening to any of my missiles ships.

In the past I've have multiple PDT's and a single volley of packhounds has gotten through them, at much reduce damage though.
Basically more PDT = more chance to take out a missile volley. If they are placed correctly on your ship location.

Thanks for the feedback. In the descrption in ED wiki on Fandom stands "shoots at every valid target ... even missiles from friendly ships" . But if I think at my mining sessions, the PDTs were always equipped and the limpets are "valid targets", but they were not shot down. Well, I've pledged Li Yong-Rui and have to wait the four weeks now.

If you're defending against hatch breaker limpets place the PDT(s) on the bottom of the ship where it can better cover the approach to the cargo bay.
