Instancing and Wing Issues... Never seen it this bad.

Where do I begin...Last night there were 4 of us and we wanted to wing up and take care of a few griefers in Eravate. We were trying to get the wings to work and all in the same instance for about 3 hours. At the end of the 3 hours we gave up. 3 of us are from the USA and the other was from the UK. The 3 of us from USA were able to wing and instance together but the one player from the UK was having issues. We could wing up with him from time to time, we could see him on the galaxy map and we could see his wing beacon as a solid blue box on the radar map but we could not see him. You would think if you could wing with him and see him on the galaxy map you could physically see him in the game. Nope, never happened. We all did multiple resets of the game and hard resets of our consoles to no avail. The CMDR from the UK even changed the geographical location of his Xbox to North America thinking that might help but it did not. We jumped in and out of systems trying to get on the same instance (even though we could see his wing beacon we could not see him).Anyone else ever have this much bad luck with winging up? I've never seen it this bad. Any tips or something we didn't do that we could try next time, maybe?

This is going to be long so forewarning.

How me and my friends usually fix this issue is to do the following which again is a pain in the rear but has yet to fail except on people who are on wifi only and cannot access their routers.

First both players go into your privacy settings and change EVERYTHING related to seeing, playing, or sharing with other players to everybody, yes everything.
Next, delete each other off your friends list and remove your profile from your xbox.
After that, turn off your console and unplug it for about 2-5 minutes, at the same time while it is unplugged, try to turn it on to make sure no left over juice is idling.
Go to your router in the mean time and login to the settings on a computer, hard wired preferred. After that check to make sure your xbox ones ports are open, all of them. Then proceed to take the last digit from the xbox IP address and put it into the dmz of your router which essentially throws it out of the firewall. Next after your router updates all of those settings and finishes rebooting, unplug your router and modem then leave them unplugged aswell for about 2-5 minutes. After the time has passed start by replugging in your modem, then router, and lastly the xbox, when your xbox reconnects check the network, it should be open if you did it all correctly and opened the right ports with the correct IP from the console. After it says open, redownload your profile and add your friend as a FAVORITE, lastly after all of that is done you will all see if you can reconnect to the game and then it's just a matter of instance hopping until yall slowly get into each others instance, the fastest way i'd say is to have your friend not in the us sit at a station and to have you and the other two us friends jump servers until one of yall land on his, then just keep rotating until you are all in. If it still does not work then you're just screwed lol.

Similar issue here. Two of us from Europe trying to connect with one from the U.S. He can connect to one of us but not both. I cannot see his name in the friends list on the HUD but he can see me. Worse again we have video of him doing loops around my ship in sub light speed, but he does not apper on my screen or radar. He doesn't exist, according to my version of the game. Never happens to fellow Euro players and I also can connect one to one to most U.S players.

Can't wait for the next update.

Read the post I put above yours, try that even though it's a pain but it's yet to fail on me.

We shouldn't have to do any of this. It sucks.

Have you posted this in bug reports?

This is far more likely to be seen there by the people who matter (the actual devs'), than it is here.

This sounds like classic NAT settings X box issue from the days of old.

I used to only be able to fix it by resetting my router everytime it would inexplicably change itself from Open to Strict. It basically stopped people being able to join the same party's and stuff. It sounds similar anyway.

Actually I had to turn off the console, pull the power on both it and the router for at least 30 seconds. Then plug them back in. Delete my internet connection settings and enter them again to change my NAT back to open. There were 3 NAT settings, it any one or more player had anything other than OPEN as theirs it completely screws everything up.

I wised up and stopped buying Xboxs after the 4th one I owned broke though.

If we had NAT issues I doubt we wold be able to see anyone at all. We could all see each other on the galaxy map. Our Xbox chat worked fine and we could see the UK player's wing beacon and were able to wing with him. We just couldn't see his physical ship.

No I have not posted this issue in that section.

Yeah I clearly didn't read that properly.

Probably best to just sell your xbox anyway and buy a PC just to be sure.

If only the cost of a sold Xbox would cover the cost of a build PC to run the game. And there was some type of insurance that would not make the misses mad at me.

You sound like you would like a PC. Would it be in any way possible for you to replace your Xbox and have a budget to make a build with? I could do a paper build for you if you like, assuming you use Pounds Sterling.

I've done plenty of paper builds and I have a coworker who builds computers and a friend who does it for a living. I just don't have the money nor am I going to sell my xbox. My fiance uses it for too many things and it's very useful for things other than playing games such as, Netflix, Blu ray, Youtube videos and other none PC games I play. I plan on building a computer but won't happen until next year at the earliest. But thanks for the thought.

No problem man. Just thought I'd ask. :)

Do not know if it is relevant but there are some major issues all over England at the moment with BT's broadband network.
As most providers use this network it is causing a lot of grief to a lot of people.
In Cambridge UK the instancing was so bad last night that only SOLO mode was properly playable.
When I did manage to get OPEN to work it was a joke,I had targeted NPC,s leaping about all over the place.
I would follow them firing then they would stop suddenly only then to leap out of view.
Most frustrating and resets didn't cure it.

Last night my NAT type awkwardly, on its own, decided it did not want to be open, but prefers strict now... um... ok? One of the guys in the party said it was a MS thing not a FD thing, which makes sense I suppose... But, it kicked me from the party chat, and had we been trying to wing/instance, I guarantee that it wouldn't have worked out... So, I would suggest checking NAT types on occasion as they now will change on a whim for whatever reason.

I also play Elite with guys in America and Europe, most we have to do to fix wings is to hard restart XBox... usually the person who has been on the longest just have to cycle Elite off/on and poof, works.

Those are really weird.Another thing that it did. When I nav locked on to someone it kept dropping me in and out of SC regardless of what the other player did. One second I would low wake, then 5 seconds later I would jump back to SC, then low wake then back to SC. This happened without me even touching the xbox controller. My ship was possessed.

It does suck, but eliminating all of those possibilities by changing those settings means it will be an issue of either region, internet company, faulty hardware, or elite(or Microsoft) itself is crapping out.

Edit: Also it is process of elimination as to what the source problem is, this just basically says all my crap is good, it's your end that's messed up, just one way of viewing it lol.
