Worth looking at your broadband routers and their UPNP connectivity support. Many CMDRs had problems during Beta & Gamma when FDev were still optimising their netcode.
This this this this this!
If your UPnP doesn't work well, and you haven't worked around it with settings in AppConfig.xml, then you may be out of luck. "TURN" is meant to fill the gap if UPnP isn't functional for you, but in my experience it's not the case.
My advice? If you have a UPnP capable router, make sure it's all turned on and working, latest firmware and all that jazz. If you don't, get a capable router - it's just a headache otherwise.
Why? I've been doing firewalling in corporate environments that would make your toes curl (OK, gentle hyperbole) for 21 years, and what I had to do here on an enterprise firewall to make ED work counts as the very grossest of hacks.
...but I see lots of other real players when in busy parts of the 'verse. (Lave et. al., Sol, Rare routes, CG areas, etc...)
