There is no real overall advantage to solo over open aside from not having to put up with pirates camping stations etc. Credits and ship size mean nothing in the overall scheme of ED, a Viper can take on a Python it is down to skill not gaining more credits via less pvp risk modes. Until they add something to open to make it worthwhile to players, who really are not overly interested in pvp, then the situation will remain. I would like to see more pve risk added in solo mode, maybe up the interdiction a bit as it seems really low at the moment.
.
In the end there is an official mod post whre this belongs and will probably end up being merged into and yes it has been done to death and FD have made it quite clear the separate modes are a core design of ED and will not change.

Solo, private group, or open play. My choice. Your choice. Now choose one or choose all at different times, and the play that day as you want. Now what is wrong with choices when everyone playing has all the same choice? The answer is none.

Get use to it.

That would all be perfectly reasonable, if only players that swap from open into solo, didn't happen to do it simply to avoid other players at the 'coincidentally' exact same time that they encounter other players.

If you could just consider for a moment, that there is a significant difference, between choosing to play in solo one day/gaming session and then to play in open at another time, to flying around in Open, then disconnecting when your internal code brown alarm goes off, as soon as you see a hollow blip on the radar.

This swapping from one to the other, mid-flight, mid-encounter, is nothing more than passive-aggressive griefing. Let's call it negative anti-grief.

It wouldn't get my goat so much, if it weren't for the often very smug attitude of players who promote this , 'workaround', when they declare they only do it to avoid nasty griefers, insinuating that anyone who disagrees, is a nasty Wannabe Pirate griefer.

I so wish I had bagged the commander name 'CareBear' when I started ED in beta, that would have been fantastic ;)

I'm quite a live-and-let-live sort of guy, I wish others could be the same. I don't see why my preference for solo and group seems to be such a problem for a few people; I didn't design or write this game. I just play it in the way I want to play it.

First let me say , I like this game. The look and feel is amazing,...especially with the DK2. That being said, it's my opinion that the instancing system combined with the solo/group modes will eventually sink this game,...or at the very least keep it a very small title that will vanish eventually due to too small a player base.

The Devs have tried to put too many different games in 1 package. Solo mode should be off line and UNRELATED to online play. If you want to play solo, that's fine, But you should not be able to use solo mode to advance in the online world. PLease FDevs,...give the carebears their unconnected solo game, and make online open play only.

Seriously,....WHAT DIFFERENCE does it make for a solo player if commodity prices get updated? Just give these people unlimited ammo and power, indestructible ships....... wrap them in bubble wrap and let them look at different colored stars to their hearts content.

This game is not Elite or Dangerous.............. this game is carebears with spreadsheets in space.

DEVS ! you CANT have it both ways ! make up your minds what game you want this to be and make it that way... If you want to build a solo experience,.... then do so and stop promising an MMO experience. If you want this to be an MMO,...then get rid of your horrible instancing, as well as solo and group modes.

if you want to have solo and group modes then disconnect them from the online game..... players should not be allowed to influence the online world from behind a firewall.

I bought a DK2 and a new gaming rig just to play this game..... too bad it's not ready yet (and might never be)

You guys have had some good ideas, and some bad ones...... the Dichotomy between open and solo/group will kill this game...... please disconnect the Realistic and carebear modes of play.

You sound like an Eve player...so if this game doesn't fit your notion of what it should be then go back to Eve...PLEASE. If anything Eve is more of a SPREADSHEET in space than this game is ever going to be. And .... Target, set orbit range, click weapons on, go get coffee/tea/soda....return and rinse repeat.
Oh and the Dev's can have it any way they and the majority want.

----mops up what remains of the deceased equine in hopes that this subject fades into oblivion-----

Also, you are not the first to predict doom for the game and you wont be the last, but so far things are looking quite good for FD.

Disagree. Looked good during alpha, suspect during beta, clearly not ready during gamma and now we have an alpha quality game in terms of features as an official release.

Basic things like group functionality are being pushed back until march. The game wasn't ready and it appears to be suffering from a lack of clear vision for what the game should be. It seems to be a series of one quick and dirty fix after another. It really appears they don't know how to handle online or how to actually put a game inside of this universe.

By the time this resembles a somewhat complete game, it will already be forgotten by most. Fragmenting the player base as much as humanly possible was a terrible idea and Elite lacks even the most basic of features. This is not a good start and things really don't look that good for the future.
