Instant Death - What Happened?

I had just entered a station in my Type-9 with a full load of 500 Gold.
I had docking permission and I could see my docking bay lights.
I was clear of the station entrance and was fairly central in the station, nowhere near any structure.
No other ships were around.
I had no fines or bounties.
I was not in silent running mode (I had unmapped the button to go into silent running).
There were no warning lights for anything.
Hull was 100% and my B5 shields were at full and I was not being attacked.

Suddenly I got the warning to eject and then the message that my ship was destroyed (but no reason why).

I lost 3.6M insurance and 4.4M credits of gold. I'm insured so no big issue but I've still lost several hours of game play.

I've raised a ticket but I also have a ticket from 16th December still unanswered so I don't expect a answer soon.

Is there anything I've missed that could have caused this - or was I just unlucky and hit a bug?

I wonder. I once had an instant, out of nowhere "Eject Eject Eject" as well. I was fighting an Anaconda at the time, but I'm pretty sure I didn't miss the very visible instant death projectile flying my way. My shields were up, hull at 100%, no sound of impact, nothing at all whatsoever, just a sudden death like in your case.

This happened to me about 30 minutes ago and before anyone asks about laser beams, or any other normal death this was not it.

I suspect the server glitched at precisely the wrong time and kaboom. Happened extremely fast too, you literally go from full health and shields to nothing. Lost about 100K and first death added to stats, also hadn't gone 20ly to drop off exploration data, oh well...

Did you get hit by station beam lasers targeting another ship

Not unless they killed me with one shot? I never got a "You are under attack warning".

or rammed by another ship such as a Type9 or Conda?

I'm not sure ramming with a Type-9 or Ananconda would be enough to one shot a Type-9 with full shields? I know my Type-9 doesn't kill an shield Asp or larger hitting it head on with my Type-9. I don't know for sure though.

At about 10pm UK time I lost network connection. The game crashed and I had to use task master the quit. When I logged back in my ship was spinning and I got the reject, reject warning, then my ship exploded. Lost all my mining for the last hour, and the cost of the old ship. Very frustrating.

I just had the exact same thing in an Asp today. Instant explosion during station approach. It was not heat damage, nor power failure, nor impact, nor the station firing, nor any of the NPCs or other commanders. I'm carrying on for now, but have raised a ticket and am hoping for some kind of explanation from FD.

Sounds exactly the same as happened to me.

But if it was a server glitch I'd have expected to have to be stuck in a station wall or something else fatal for it to cause my death.

I bet the station glitched. Dahan Gateway was (in)famous for this in beta. It's rarely as bad now as it used to be back then...

This video was posted on these forums by a guy who watched perhaps the worst incident of it. (note that back when this was recorded, hatch breakers didnt exist and so ships dumped cargo when they popped)

I had two or three server disconnects beforehand, usually not fatal, so its just a suspicion (and if it spun around real fast we may not notice graphically inside the station...). Without access to logs and further information we don't have access to end users are really ill equipped to know the exact cause :).

Luckily wasn't taking a large risky run at the time.

If the computersystem in your type-9 was powered by Windows 3300, systemcrashes are to be expected.

No - I'd not upgraded from Windows 3295 after Microsoft removed the Start Menu (for the 1647th time), I'm waiting for Windows 3303 when they bring back the Start Menu (for the 1647th time).

I believe that such "magic" insta-deaths may be caused in open play only.....

I usually play in a group instance, the only time I played on OPEN, after a fight, with full shields, full hull, suddenly, kaboommm. Lost my ship, rewards, everything..... There was another player nearby, and I noticed some jitter on the connection....

That never happened on group play....
