Instant ship transfer, I have a question

You can't switch ships when you have cargo.

We know my scenario does not require it.

Another basic point is that many players will fly ASP,s just to negate risk of re-buy on there big freighters and battle-wagons. This feature will re-balance the game in ways we haven't even thought of yet for the sake of a lazy implementation. The only way to negate that factor is a random chance that sorry your ship did not make it, and that wont happen.

The big thing is not geting to Sothis, it's the geting back to target with the constant interdictions because of the missions you have taken. The more missions, the more interdictions you'll get into.

OK try this one i go to an anarchy system and bring imperial slaves out at an extremely high profit 5000cr a ton i stopped doing it because my T9 was getting destroyed on the way in. true story, now i could start that again by flying in with a 500M/s cobra without a problem and then magic in the T9 and leave no risk, this is but one example of the many ways that will be found to exploit this feature. if i,m bringing the T9 from a near buy safe system cost will be negligible and not as barrier to doing it.

This seems legit, good idea. :) Costs probably wont be high enough to negate the profits made of this.

Mind you, that in 2.2 you can have a fighter cover in your T9 and actualy just play the game for both fun and profit. ;-)

(fun = yes, I know, to each their own)

Well you'll still be losing money, paying for the transfer + losing any profit you could have made flying the first route with a full load of cargo.

His example refers more to an A-B-C route where the trip from C to A is very short but very dangerous. You could still make a nice profit from A to B and from B to C, and if there is actually no commodity going from C to A, you don't lose anything potentially, and the ship moving cost refers to just two ships over the short distance between A and C.

Basically any route where there is some dangerous sector as a destination will be helped by this mechanic, because you can squeeze in the ship transfer just for a short portion. The most dangerous part of flying a trading ship is the approach, the stretch from the last jump to the station, that's when you are most likely to be interdicted. High-waking there also means that you reset any progress made towards the station (while high-waking anywhere else along the route is just continuing with the route really).

With this, you won't care if your next pick-up point is an Anarchy, a war zone, or a CG. Just park one system away, call in the blockade runner, your fat trader also magically runs the blockade, and afterwards it's business as usual.

Is this a case of some people wanting a mechanic where they get access to their best ship for that particular task and
some people wanting fleet management for relocation.

I want fleet management to relocate as needed, but having thought a lot about this I am at the point where I fear that the current plan for ship transfer will take away the role of multi purpose ships and balanced load outs.

Please excuse me, but did FD officially announce that you can put Ships loaded with cargo into the shipyard ? Because as of now, that is not possible, hence the question of the OP would be a clear "NO - that is not possible".

Regarding costs of the ship transfer:

We don't "know" anything yet, but when we take the numbers provided in the streams and screenshots (which may change, or not), you can do a rough math of costs:

89kzcEvZ-M5mgljaa74Volqsj2PCNVmpGC_RqR6Tk7Z-1Q239QiTBn61K6sArQdn-lg1U0ozY9yb_L-rcDSmqOOwZQu2xJcnT7am2v2b0Y4eYxlYZtSTJYHViQ=s0-d-e1-ft

For a Beluga (a trading Cutter would not be that much 'cheaper' i a assume), 40LY would cost 579,850 CR. That's 14496.25CR per LY. If you want to get that "quick" to Jaques as an example, that would be 22.000LY x 14496,25 = 318.917.500 CR - not so reasonable.
If you would like to do Sothis/Ceos Runs, and assume a total distance of 450LY to travel (and 'summon'), than this would be still 6.5Mil CR for that trip.

I really don't see the point of the discussion. It is not "button to win" or else. It just gives player a convinient way to get ships to a location, if they really want it. Moderate costs in the bubble, really really high costs, the further you go out.

If you are in your "big" ship, and just want to get your Explo-Vessel, or Fighter somewhere inside the bubble (or not to far out), it does make sense, every other scenario, i don't see this work for a reasonable amount of Credits.

just my 2CR,

Of course, just made of assumptions right now.

Ok so, let's say I have a Type 9 outfitted for cargo, like 450 tons or whatever and I have an asp outfitted for jump range, say 30ly.

Can I fly my asp to Sothis, call my empty type 9, fill it with mission cargo and fly it the 300ly to the destination systems. Empty the Type 9 and call my empty asp.

Then fly my asp back to Sothis and call my empty Type 9 and start again.

Effectively only ever having to make one trip in my Type 9?

Will I be able to do that in 2.2?

With what we know now, yes you could. It's assumed you can only move empty ships, but there's no reason to suspect that you couldn't insta-xfer your big heavy space cow to sothis, fly it to whereever, and then use your long-legged transport ship to get back to sothis quickly again. You could probably reduce round trip time by about 30%, at whatever the cost of the insta-xfer is. If you have billions in the bank account who really cares what it costs?

Maybe some commanders are a bit concerned about how this mechanic will be used, but nevertheless, the OP simply asked a question about using the mechanic and the discussion picked up from there.

There's nothing wrong with discussing a game mechanic, even if it's not implemented yet. We're just thinking of clever ways to use the tools the developers put at our disposal.
