Instant ship travel lore - Ship brokers instead of 3D printing

Sorry if it's already someone else's idea, I really don't have the time to read each one of the forum threads.

The 3D printing idea really does not make much sense. Why would my original ship disappear ? Is it some kind of Tron disintegrator which would send the atoms through hyperspace and reconstruct my ship 300Ly away ? Everyone seems to deem it a bit unrealistic, even in a world where everyone travels across the galaxy.

I think it would be much more lore-friendly to implement a sort of ship brokers network, and replace the instant travel with a remote selling/local buying mechanic. You would of course sell at a greater loss than if done locally.

The ship brokers could be able to provide the 'new' ship/parts even if not for sale, because they're... brokers. That's their job [smile]. It could also open possibilities of sourcing high-end modules for a price, leaving one with the choice to travel to a High Tech system one your own, or request the services of the broker.

So, what do you think ?

I got a better idea they put an old jump drive like the one capital ships use but smaller into your ship. Then when it reaches its location they put the your fsd drive back in. That's why they charge you. As for the conflict zone changing ships beats me.

I'm in favour of paying a price for the transfer and saying it was shipped. Happens in the real world all the time. As for the instant time, eh - just file it under the same slot as instant ship repair and modification, and your escape pod teleporting 20,000LY if your ship gets whacked way out beyond the bubble. ;)

Just make a teleporter facility in the game, like the huge capital ship yards.

Organic material can't be teleported, the energy required would be equal to distance and connected to the cost.

Boom there you go. Make some cool effects of ships being teleported, setup a scrip of ships moving in and out from the station to the teleporter and you also
got some activity around it.

I could live with that, and then of course add a AutoPilot to the game....

Yes. God yes. Stop struggling to find a lore explanation that's going to raise further questions and people are only going to hate anyway, and just say "it takes time, we're not going to make you sit through that time just like we don't make you wait for your cargo to be loaded and unloaded, I dunno, just assume your pilot's having a nap while they wait or whatever."
