I know I am late, but I have a more elegant proposal in contrast to the already announced putting UC with tax on the carrier.

If you die on a ship, we assume you lose cartographic data because your ship computers blow up.

What if you could dock at your carrier and store that data so that if you die on your ship, you keep the data until your last dock/download.

when you are back with your carrier in civilized space you upload your carrier's databanks to an UC on a a station and get full credits.
Or you can redownload the data back to your ship if you want to cash with your ship.

It would create a data storage service tradeable between players in line with FD's original vision.

Taken to an extreme level the idea could also open up espionage gameplay similar to the installation where people could use limpets to tap on carrier and steal snippets of data.
