Insurance has a huge gap and it unfairly punishes one form of gameplay.

MAKE INSURANCE COVER CARGO! The fact that it doesn't is completely unfair to people that play as traders. I lost a ship (got knocked into a corner by an NPC exiting a station, and was stuck on the geometry while the station lasers destroyed me for "trespassing".) Losing the ship sucked enough, but I had a cargo that I had spent more than ten hours of real time collecting enough creds to purchase, (it was worth more than the entire cost of my ship) and poof, it's gone. I'm so far in the hole that I'm not even sure I can afford to fuel my ship to get back on my feet. All because of one random event that I had zero control over.

The way insurance works is completely unfair to people that enjoy trading. Please, Frontier, consider covering at least 90% of purchased or mined cargo.

1) Have a look under the insurance section of the Status Page Right Hand Panel.
2) People will still end up putting all their money into cargo, no be able to afford the insurance and complain.

Its a risk reward mechanic. And its more likely to affect riskier playstyles. Like combat.... Or trading your entire bankroll.

OP - I have to disagree, you are considering it from your point of view only -

A bounty hunter would lose any bounties they have not claimed and an explorer would lose any data they have not cashed in. Furthermore if you consider both these styles of play you will often go for a long time before claiming your rewards - a bounty hunter does not come back to port simply becuse he or she has one or two bounties to collect - likewise by its very nature exploring requires you to go away from civilisation and often you will have many, many systems of data stored. In both these scenarios this can easily amount to many tens of thousands of Cr and often hundreds of thousands of Cr.

Death is supposed to be punative, but at least you don't have to go back to the begining!

Cargo insurance in my opinion should be purchased each time you buy cargo, it should not be an ongoing thing and should eat unto profits of each transaction and premium based on target destination If you dont use it, tough. If you do then good purchase.

In beta I bounty hunted some, since release I have almost exclusively traded, guess which one hurt my credits more...
The insurance is far more severe for combat pilots than traders...the decision to carry high value over low value is one you make, with cargo insurance there would be little risk difference between cargo types and trading would become even more fedex than it currently is

Wait, so the highest paying near lowest risk (explorer is pretty chill) should have it's risk completely removed from the game?

This would be good but only a few traders would use it. Hell, half of the traders dont even use shields.

Have the insurance cost 5-10% of the cargo's cost, make it only last until you sell the cargo.

I could have made big money by trading in high value, high profit but high risk goods. I lose a cargo worth 1 million and its going to hurt. So instead i chose to trade in smaller value, smaller profit, smaller risk cargo until i can afford to carry the loss. My choice, my risk assessment, my style of playing the game. I dont want to have my hand held by cargo insurance. I want to make sensible, informed and realistic choices about how i exist in the galaxy...
