Insurance rebuy rates

I think Insurance rebuy rates should be on a sliding scale harmless at 1% mostly harmless 1.5% novice 2% etc I think a more gradual rebuy will make players less afraid of death and they might realise it's not game ending experienc to die everyone and then

Why? Unless you're cheesing a get-rich-quick scheme, before you start flying a really expensive ship you'll be ranked up a bit and paying the higher rates anyway. If you ARE cheesing a get-rich-quick AND are flying without a rebuy balance.. well, that's on the player. It's not the game's fault they are playing daft.

A sliding scale could be an idea, but the premise is wrong. Death should be a near game-ending experience, and I would like to see the rates start at 50% and rise up to 100% at the top.

If that's the case, then let the player pay up for mistakes. It's not like them being in a conda on the very first day is hurting you

Thought it would be kinda to noobs a lot of them come crying on the forums because someone Ganked them well let them get Ganked a few times without ending their elite dangerous game or running off to a private group it's not actually that big of a deal to die it's only a game

Personally, I'd like to see rebuy rates increase according to risk.

The rebuy would start off at 5% and increase by 5% with each ship loss.
It'd also decrease by, say, 10% each week - to the minimum of 5%.

Seems like that would encourage players to consider different (cheaper) ships for hazardous roles and curb some of the "when you're rich you can do anything!!!" mentality that exists within the game.

Noobs get a free Sidewinder every time they die, I don't see the problem! :D

Well at some point there should be insurance brokers who you pay for insurance on your ship.

A lot of variables should dictate how much insurance costs and what the broker pays out when you lose the ship such as:

Accident/pilot error/being attacked/where you were attacked/what you were doing when attacked/you attacked someone/why you attacked someone/who your allies are/job etc etc

Certain circumstances should mean you forfeit insurance payout while others guarantee it.

For instance if you go to a CZ and choose a side that side should cover the cost of your ship and just being high ranked with the feds etc should get you cheaper insurance and influence payouts.

Complicated but it would make the game more interesting.

I like the idea of the concept

Firstly, OP which ranking are you talking about, Combat, Exploration or Trade, or is it based on the highest of the three?

Secondly, I think FD have been very kind to us players regarding losing a ship in the game. Not only do we have insurance, for those stupid enough to fly without the funds there are loans available, or the real cry babies can plead their case with Customer Support. But the big bonus is that if you have the funds, you get an exact copy of your ship back. Doesn't matter if the station where you end up have never stocked that ship, never stocked the modules, miraculously suddenly everything is there just waiting for you. And to make matters worse, all that Engineering you grinded for, including the Experimentals that can ONLY be applied by an Engineer are suddenly available at every station - just doesn't make sense.

I would much prefer if upon death you get back your ship and modules, but the only Engineering that is applied is the ones you have pinned the blueprints for and no experimental effects - hell make death something to worry about !

OMG....... A 5 percent rebuy is already dirt dirt cheap. Not being able to cover a rebuy when the noobs rush to an annie after a couple weeks pays is just what we call an attitude adjustment. It usually makes them a better player after they learn this lesson.

I would be for increasing the rebuy in some way like Stealthie mentions. Maybe not as severe but it would put a bit more risk/profit thinking into the game.

Good topic tho

No amount of rebuy cushioning is going to take out the sting some people feel being gunned down by a live player. That's the burn there, not the credit hit; the thought that somewhere in the world someone enjoyed blowing up their ship.
