Insurance rebuys only available at certain stations

I'd like to propose that ship insurance is no longer available everywhere when you respawn. You need to go to a station which provides this service!

Systems with insurance would be high tech or industrial economies, or any economy with a population above 10 million or so. They shouldn't be too far between. Some of the remote stations across the galaxy should of course also be given insurance to reduce player misery.

If you respawn in a system without insurance, you are instead given a sidewinder or a hauler as a loan. You have to travel to a system providing rebuys to make your claim. Perhaps a mission from the insurance company could direct you to the nearest one.

Apart from adding realism and giving death a little more consequence, I also like that this forces players to sit in a starter ship every now and again. People move on too quickly and forget the joys of the little ships. [smile]

From an immersion-standpoint I totally agree. If the last station I was at before getting killed doesn't sell the ship I fly, let alone all the modules I have fitted, how should it provide me with the exact same ship on such short notice? On the other hand we have ship transfer now. So consequently, if your ship is provided by another station, as you suggest, you still should be able to have it transferred to the station you re-spawned at... So it would imply some extra fee for the transfer plus some waiting time. But then again I still don't know how, after getting killed, I myself get back to the last station so quickly. So much for the immersion-factor... And I'm pretty sure the pvp community, who frequently need rebuys, wouldn't be very happy about such a change.

I totally agree. The way escape pods reliably get you to the next station in a few seconds is a little bit unrealistic anyway, but that insurance companies should have such great customer service is simply science fiction. :D

Good for immersion and stuff, but terrible for Gameplay.

Organised PvP would suffer.

Without changing the entire system, it'd be quite difficult to do.
But if you pre-purchased your insurance, (which would last until the ship is destroyed, because a Eve style timer is annoying as hell), you could then state if you die, and claim it, you respawn in your ship at the station you purchased your insurance from...?
You can update your insurance as its value increases, and if you move about.
You're basically paying the Pilots Federation or something.

PvPers could then just dock at the nearest station, and prepay their insurance, and continue as normal.

Or something. Lol

Or just leave it as it is. :p

It could work. It has always troubled me a bit getting instantaneous access to a ship. The PF could operate out of a few key systems where there is a ship depot say 100 ly apart.

If destroyed, then a player is re-spawned at the nearest station with shipyard. On the buy back screen you are given the option to buy-back your ship.
If claimed, the new ship will be waiting for you at the nearest PF key system.
If you buy back you have have the option of transferring it to your current location (normal rules time/prices etc.) or buying a new ship from the yard.
