Insurance

Suggestion to the forum.

Get rid of insurance (in open only,) if my ship blows up then I have to pay full for another one. This would make it more dangerous for me, not to have a safety cushion.
(Or keep insurance for those who need it, say upto an asp.)

Also any mods carried to my ship have been destroyed, and reset so they don't carry over to my new load out.

The only caveat I have is you significantly reduce the materials etc required for all mods.

I think these are easy implementations to carry out to make the game better on so many levels.

This is a great idea.
Let's make it so.

This is a bad suggestion.

first it will make more players conduct in Combat Logging, where they pull the network, ALT-F4 etc to avoid having to pay for a new ship.

Secondly, this will also move many players to only play in solo/private groups, as the risk of loosing a ship got ALOT more expensive.

And with the current state of in imbalance between pure combat builds vs all other builds, will make Open to be mostly combat,as it will not be feasible to others gameplay to be done in Open.

For example, I upgraded my TRADE Cutter with reactive armor to better survive attacks. With your suggestion, if I fail to escape/evade getting attacked, I would look at a replacement of 1.1 Billion. I am not poor, but I will not risk 1.1 Billion in Open. My similiarly configured Type 9, is just 358 million, but it cannot run from anything. so if I fail to evade interdiction, I am dead.

So this would make the game terrible. And effectively kill Open.

And you can already accomplish what you suggesting by refusing to rebuy the ship you lost and always take the stock sidewinder, and then you have to go and buy yourself a new ship and outfit and engineer that ship.

So stop using Rebuy. Problem solved and you don't have to force your desires on everyone else.

Terrible suggestion. All this would do is drive many players into solo.

A better option would be

1. make players pay an insurance premium (say a credit amount every play session)
2. make insurance pay out 95% if your ship loss is not your fault.
3. insurance pays out lesser % of your rebuy cost if the loss is due to your own actions (ie you started the fight, or you flew in anarchy systems, or CZs)
4. repetitive insurance claims push your premiums up, periods with no claim push your premiums down.

Oh, wait... that would be insurance actually working like .. you know ... real insurance.
