Presently if you apply a neutron star boost or jumponium boost, the game does not re-plot your current route to take that one-time boost into account. Rather, you must go into the galaxy map and clear your existing route, then plot a new one just for that boost, then make the jump, then plot a new route again for normal jumps.
So here's a suggestion to greatly increase the usability of jumponium and especially neutron boosts. If you have a fastest route already plotted to a destination—lets say it's 999 LY away—and then you happen upon a neutron star (or inject a jumponium boost), then the game should automatically skip ahead and find you the farthest system towards your ultimate destination, plot that jump as your next one, then intelligently re-plot the rest of your route from there.
That way, you would never need to go back and forth into the galaxy map to speed up your trip using jumponium or neutron stars.
It might even be nice if plotting a route would favor hitting neutron stars specifically for the purpose of this kind of speedup. Because if you have to manually go back and forth the make these routes, then it tends to negate the extra speed advantage gained by using these extended boosts.
So, just a QOL suggestion. Also, I would note that the route plotting seems to be going very slowly today...
