Intel's DX12 demo looks...rather familiar

It certainly looks interesting. If only they would do the decent thing and allow this on Windows 7 and not just 8/9. If they don't it will almost certainly be a marketing decision. But since its going to be ages before any games support the new code, outside little tasters and tech. demos I will wait until Windows 9 if need be.

Rumours have it that there will be a free upgrade to Win9 for XP, Vista and Win7 users. So if it is Win8/9 only you may well still be in luck.

Sources? I really wish this would turn out true, but I seriously doubt it as MS are all about getting hold of your money :D

An XP > 9 upgrade path seems a bit optimistic as well; I still have an XP machine running peripherals that I can't migrate to a new OS/computer (combination of drivers and hardware interface) and it would be marginal running 7, let alone 9.

Under Ballmer I would've laughed the very suggestion out of the house, but Nadella's a different kind of MS CEO. Where Ballmer absolutely would not deviate from the old style cash-in model (which clearly hasn't worked since XP), I think Nadella's a lot shrewder. I get the impression he understands the modern market better than Ballmer ever could.

I bet he hasn't got Ballmer's moves though ;)

Hmm im still hopeing that mantel will make an appearance on ED it seems the type of game it was created for.

Operating systems don't make companies any money any more - MS are competing with OSX (now free) and Desktop Linux (always free).

They *have* to give away Windows now, and concentrate on core enterprise businesses for money.
