The benefit of exploring with a large jump range is you can reach deep space much easier... but the downside is that you end up skipping past an awful lot of systems...
I propose some sort of "Inter-Stellar Scanner" that can provide a bit of a hint as to what could be found in nearby systems.
Example: Activate your I.S.S. in a system to gain some data for all systems within 10, 15, 20, 25 LY (Depending on size of scanner).
The information would be limited, but could be things such as: Total Mass of system, Type of star, total planetary bodies, high wake charges etc.
Might be better than randomly jumping to stars and hoping for the best.... could actually make an educated guess for route planning.
