Interdicted by Federal Navy!

So I was inderdicted, assumed it was a pirate, immediately turned and fired. It was a Fed Navy ship. I got fined. Is this usual?

Yes, quite normal for Navy ships to interdict traffic, especially under War or Lockdown.

They will give you some comms to tell you their intentions.

I've not been interdicted by Security in a long, long time, but yeah, they do random inspections. Best get used to hitting the "Target nearest enemy (or is it "Highest Threat"?) during the interdiction, to see who it is.

It hadn't ever happened to me before. I did not expect it to be anyone other than a pirate. I will definitely be more careful next time. Submitting turning and firing had always been my response to interdiction. Just hasn't ever been a Navy ship before.

I was actually happily suprised!

The Navy interdictions have been in for a long time. It would be nice if they actually bothered scanning you instead of interdicting you and then running away like kids playing 'knock down ginger'.

It's usual to get interdicted by naval ships in systems where there's war or civil unrest (denoted by the "checkpoints" dotted around the system).

It's not so usual to start shooting at navy ships without checking to see who they are first.

Yes happens from time to time, think also happens in high security systems.
It is the same as when security scans you in res zones or nav points, so unless you have illegal cargo on board and if you have evade and run so they can not get the scan done before you escape.

Seems to be fixed... got a navy interdiction myself a few days ago and was surprised that they actually scanned me.

Yep. They do that. Pull you over for no real reason, then do nothing. I think they were, at one time, supposed to do something. Even if they just scanned us it would be an improvement. Of course, I make a habit of simply evading interdictions whenever someone tries - pirate or otherwise.

It might have been a bounty. Is this what the checkpoints are for?

As far as I know, Checkpoints are pretty much useless.

Checkpoints are one of those mysteries of the game that have never been revealed. They currently serve no purpose.

Maybe they have a role to play if the Bubble is invaded by Thargoids ..... all Thargoid ships are required to pull over for a background check before proceeding :)

Yeah, checkpoints in the middle of space seem to be pretty useless. Who's going to randomly stop there to get checked anyway?

Should put them in front of stations and outposts, not giving a docking permission until they got the OK from the checkpoint first.

Maybe there will at some time be a deliver doughnut and coffee mission for the checkpoints. :D
There are enough cops in one of these that you could come out a rich man with just one haul.

RBT Australia, except in this case it's RBC Elite, RBC being Random Bounty Check haha, in anycase, this happens sometimes, best way to describe it is Random Breath Tests in hot systems, except for Bounties and PowerPlay(I guess), as far as checkpoints go, never been to one, have had no desire to, but it would be interesting to get messages from trailing Navy Ships or Security Ships giving you a direct order to go to the nearest checkpoint ASAP and get checked in to avoid complications, said complications being denied access to stations, or continuous interdictions while in the system because your ship isn't checked in on local databases ha, it'd certainly give elite some more flavour I guess.
