Interdiction minigame impossible to win with joystick!

Hello,
I just bought a joystick (Saitik/Logitech x52 Pro) and im very pleased with using it in ED, except for the fact that i can not ever win the interdiction minigame anymore. I have used the Saitek control panel to increase the sensitivity for the stick (using deadzones at the outer zone of the joystick's movement). This made it slightly better but still almost impossible, it also means way too high sensitivity outside of the minigame.

Before i bought the joystick i was using an xbox 360 controller and i used to win the minigame 100% of the times against npc:s.

So, other joystick users, how have you solved this? I have tried to see if there is a way to set up the joystick with two different modes of sensitivity but without success, I have also tried to find a way to be able to quickly switch to the xbox controller when doing interdictions, but as far as i can see, there is no way to be able to use both joystick and xbox controller at the same time.

I really love the new feeling with the joystick, but without being able to interdict or avoid interdictions i dont know if i can keep using the joystick.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Its probably just you not used to the stick, I have never had any trouble avoiding interdictions with my X52 pro. i tried the game with a pad once when my HOTAS was unplugged and it felt terrible to fly with it, gamepad better than keyboard but sucks when you get used to the HOTAS.

I am pretty sure that the minigame is much more difficult with the joystick than with the controller... Even when i get more skilled using it.

At least i found that its possible to have alternate controls and switch quickly to the xbox controller whenever. But i would still like to use the HOTAS for everything in game, so if anyone has suggestiobs that would be great :)

It took me weeks to get properly used to HOTAS. But now I wouldn't know how to fly with an Xbox controller... There just aren't enough controls for a spaceship on it!

Thats weird. I loose 1 in 30 using that stick.

Cheers Cmdr's

Practice Practice Practice.

You are creating new muscle memory connections in your brain it will take time to develop these skills. Simply going to sleep will help solidify these connections. Just give it time.
And Practice!

Hey there!

I also use the x52 joystick and I don't have any problems with the interdiction, the trick is to put some real dedication into it and be familiar with how your ship handles with the joystick. you will get the hang of it really quickly so don't worry there. ships handle differently in super cruise (as far as I have witnessed) which has a minimal impact on interdictions. for example I get caught out a bit more often in my anaconda than when I had my vulture or python. generally perseverance in interdictions will almost always result in success against an opponent.

stay true mate and you'll get there very quickly :)

I use a joystick and win most of the interdictions. It depends on your ship configuration and also that of the other ship. When I was flying my A-rated Asp, I won all the interdictions (for months). I'm currently flying a Type-9 and interdictions are much harder to win, even with A-rated thrusters. I'm still getting better, though. If you're flying a trading "cow" ship, you might want to try a more agile ship for a while.

I assume your ship hasn't changed, so you just need to get used to the new hardware. Here are some tips:

Make sure the engine throttle position is in the blue zone, about 90% of the way to the top of the blue. Try rapidly changing directions with the stick, in the general direction of the target. Also, try using the thruster buttons (up/down/left/right) in the direction of the target. For me, the left/right buttons seem to make more of a difference than up/down for some strange reason.

Everyone I know says that when they first switch to a stick. It won't take long for you to get used to it. The following advice may or may not make any difference but it's how I do it. When evading an interdiction I keep the throttle in the blue when I'm close to the reticle and I throttle all the way up when it gets away from me. When doing the interdicting I always throttle down to zero once the mini game starts. I use yaw a lot, watch which direction my target is pointed and roll to follow suit. A little practice and you'll get used to it. Trade barges can be hit or miss when evading but any other ship and I never lose to NPC's. o7

I use a Logitech 3d Extreme Pro stick and have no problem beating interdictions on a regular basis.
Be sure to calibrate your stick in Windows, and set your dead zones in Elite, just plain practice.
Find a friend and take turns interdicting each other until you can beat them at least 70% of the time, and you'll beat NPC's 99% of the time.

That's a technique I haven't tried. Thanks for the tip! Rep++
