Interested in joining a group/community?

After some discussion with other Alpha backers on how much interest there was in an organised group/community, I decided to go ahead and set one up. Not just any old group but one more targeted at dogfighting in Elite: Dangerous.

The group is called the Fighting Vipers and though we will be more aimed at dogfighting activities we will be getting involved with other activities like trading, exploration, etc. so don't think you'd need to be just dogfighting. In fact I'm sure as the group grows we will have members that want to do those things more than dogfighting, which is fine. It's not going to be a strict, formal group. More easy going, playing for fun most of the time. :)

I'm hoping that we can turn this into a major group/community for Elite: Dangerous players. As the game develops I'm sure that more groups like this will be coming along as well, which is a good thing. Having team mates to rely on in game is going to make the game so much better! :D

I have just finished the community website (I think it's ready anyway! ) and will be setting up our own Teamspeak server shortly. In the meantime Han Solo has kindly set up a channel for us to use on the GamersCove Teamspeak server (which is at 81.109.213.43), where you can find me most of the time.

The channel is password protected but just PM me on here or poke me on TS and I'll send you the password. ;)

Anyone who's interested is invited to come along to the new website (http://www.fightingvipers.com/) and help us get it off the ground. Hopefully the community will take off and the site will soon be buzzing! I imagine there are going to be a lot more Commanders arriving soon, so hopefully it won't be too long before things hot up! :D

I'm sure there are people who would be happy with that... not me though... but I would like to think that the Mod's should setup a dedicated forum for those interested in this kind of activity so that it builds your community/clan/org/dog fighting group and allows others to post/create new ones etc... so that it doesn't get lost in the mists of the General chat forum

That sounds like a good idea. I certainly can see more groups taking off as the game develops, so it would make sense. :)

It will no doubt meet resistance but I think we could do with a seperate section in the forum for people who want to organise guilds/clans etc.

The game doesn't explicitly support those yet, instead a different system is planned, but people are going to want to organise themselves and recruit members so might be an idea. :)

I'm imagining it will meet resistance but nobody ever agrees on everything. A good idea and something other game forums end up doing at some point.

I can see a use for a "Friends Group" forum.
I'm not looking to join a group at this time although I have some friends already.
I'm looking to usually be doing my own thing and occasionally fly with friends or cooperate on certain projects with my friends.
Good luck with your group/guild though!

Well, there have been at least 8 people expressing their interest in joining us so far and the website hasn't been up for more than a couple of hours. As I can see the IP addresses of website visitors it was also nice to notice that someone from Frontier Developments was looking at the website, so they are taking an interest in what we're doing. :D

I expect to see a lot more people flooding to play ED in the next month or so and some of them will want to be lone wolfs but I'm sure just as many will want to work in a group. The good thing is everyone can be catered for in ED, people just need to set up their own groups/communities for their way of playing.

Awww, you're making me blush now! lol

None of us know what's in line for us yet, that's why it's so exciting! For me sharing my thoughts, concerns and hopes with friends who play ED as well is the best part. ;)

Any group running a teamspeak server should copy the link to the TeamSpeak Guide for Dummies.. above my sig..

Don't be afraid of the title, we all learn something new every day..

Thanks Maxim, I had a look at it. I can see it's aimed at people who are new to TeamSpeak so I'm afraid there wasn't really anything new to me. I'm sure it will be very helpful for groups that haven't done this kind of thing before though. :)

I've set up and ran TS servers before, so I don't foresee any problems in that area when we do get one. We need to concentrate on building up the community for now. Getting enough people joining is a much bigger problem! lol

Hopefully the live stream tonight and (also hopefully) the release of Alpha 4 will boost interest. :D

Hate to break it to you, but live stream got delayed to tomorrow evening.

I have now set up the TeamSpeak server for the Fighting Vipers group! :D

Everyone is welcome to come and join in the chat. You can find it at eurots7.gameservers.com:9120, just use that address to connect to our server in TeamSpeak. See you there! :)

Yes I think FD need to make a community section where people can recruit to join the group/clan/guild/corp whatever you want to call it, I remember on the aurora forums there was a section for that and there were more posts in that section than anywhere else on that forum, freelancer did not exactly support group/clans etc either

Agreed. It will be a lot more efficient than including select initiatives in the newsletter of tweeting/twittering them.

I'm sure a subforum for expeditions/groups will be available at some stage.
