I normally don't post these types of articles, but every now and again Cracked puts one out that's a little more serious than the others. It's still written in a humorous way, but I think the points the writer makes are valid.
More importantly, I think this is why I'm finding ED like a breath of fresh air in the game community. Especially point 5 at the top of the article. By playing in group or solo, you're taking away the power certain gamers want to feel by making you react to them and would explain the vitriolic reaction to solo that some of our players have. It would also explain the attitude of some people in the forum. They can't get a reaction in the game, so they come to the forums to get that reaction.
As strange as it sounds, I don't want (or have) to play ED for 8 hours a day, 7 days a week; and that's a really good thing. The game isn't forcing you to play to progress, simply because you (as the player) make your own progress and there is none of the usual "power creep" that some games have to make you play and play and play just to get that slightly better piece of gear.
I know it's not every ones cup of tea, but this game model is working for me. Yes I'd like to see some improvements, but the basic premise is sound. It is pure entertainment that I choose to play when I want, with no feeling of loss when I don't.
It's nice not to be in a "Skinner box" anymore.
