Interesting graph

I would say definitely inflammatory :D

It's interesting but I think that it only really shows that ED was released. My personal opinion is that I can't wait for SC to be released I will play both, even though my heart belongs to ED. I'm remaining open and unbias before I get to play them both. Having 2 epic space sims rather than just 1 can only be good right?

I think I'll also dive into SC although I'm an Elite 84'er and yes, more space sims is a good thing. I'll head on over to the SC site and look at the package options available.

This is a good attitude IMO. Kudos for that. I wish I could remain unbiased but I really don't think I am. Just watching a SC video on youtube makes me involuntarily frown.

I think most of the ED activity just is because there's a lot more going on in the ED development right now. As SC nears a significant release, I'm sure activity will pick up. Right now, there's not mcuh reason to google SC stuff.

Yeah, ED was released :) There are reviews, comments etc. obviously this would happen.

I really don't get the frowns between the two userbases. ED is in many ways a much more simple game mechanics and fidelity wise. And it is based on an entirely different core idea. It has at its core the galaxy and going around in it doing whatever you feel like. In the long run it'll hopefully turn out to be an amazing and reactive sandbox, and it is by far the most advanced attempt at creating an ingame universe ever attempted.

SC is mechanically a bazillion times more advanced due to the amount of time (funds) that is spent on modeling the functions and physicality of the ships and systems, but it is not as much a huge sandbox as it is a space adventure. The focus is way more on the ships and the character where it seems to be on the universe in ED. And the space you have to roam around in, or will have, pales in comparison to ED.

To be honest I with they'd take the universe of ED and stick the flight mechanics of SC in there, but that is probably not technically feasible to have two so huge systems of high fidelity at the same time atm. Tho idunno, I'm not a developer :p

I adore both games to bits to be honest. And my inner child is also highly amused at all the completely uninformed vitriol SC fans fling at ED, and ED fans fling at SC :p

Interesting - looks like ED has been ticking along nicely since around June time :)

Also backed both, looking forward to the story driven Squadron 42 but until then can't seem to drag myself away from ED! Just one more mission, maybe I can gain some rep.....

The heatmap shows that Elite really needs to start advertising more outside the UK. Maybe they could make a bigger push in the US when the first expansion comes out.

That IS interesting. When I saw the title I wondered how those two words could work together, but they do! With all the hoopla surrounding SC you'd think that would be a more searched game. You never can tell.

That's cool, I backed SC over a year ago and they really showed very little and even that had insane amounts of issues. Compared to how elite was even in alpha it's disappointing to say the least and the way they give you one ship to test with and you have to pay real money (and A LOT) for any other ship, suck, but I get it. That said I still love SC, and I still believe in them, just that elite showed me how it's done well and I hope they learn from it. Going to play both, don't see a reason why not, as a space sim mega fan I'm currently in heaven :).

to make any real impact in the us...they need a functional multiplayer model....p2p wont do.
after that they need social and group/guild features....they need to stop thinking like a singleplayer small pond game.
next they need to decide on how they will fund themselves moving forward.

failing any of the above means a U.S. market would eat them alive

But SC is a very much searched for game. Compared to pretty much all other unreleased titles, it has consistently had a very high search volume for a long time, and with no sign of slowing down. For most of their respective development periods, SC has received far more web search interest than ED. Up until the end of november, the graph looked like this. But after ED release, it's obviously not a fair comparison. When people start actually playing a game, the web activity explodes. No surprise there. Still, it was nice to see that even with the relatively small numbers of people playing during Beta and Gamma, interest in ED was steadily increasing and starting to catch up with that of its rich American cousin.

(And for the record, I absolutely support SC too, and hope to see it succeed.)

Ah okay that makes sense. I never was good with statistics or graphs. I don't get the rivalry between the two games either, looking forward to playing Chris Roberts' creation but I wont stump up any money until release.
