Interesting "little" change to a station Frontier haven't brought up in 2.2

So Eotienses (Denton Patreus' home system) has been my home system since I started my ED career way back in July of last year. I know the whole system like the back of my hand. So much so that even though I don't trade, at all, I knew the trade routes and what sells where and was able to make a decent go at that CG everyone flipped out about a few weeks back.

So I more or less knew from just the Gamescom streams that Adams Market would end up all green cause it's an agricultural station and all the others in the system would get the refiner overhaul. Cool right, but it also meant that I didn't need to go home to see said changes in the beta cause I'd see them everyday in the live build.

So what's my point you ask? Glad you asked. You see, Parkinson Dock happens to be the first station in the system, closes to the star, but I rarely go there due to the fact that 1 Adam's Market orbits an Earth-like world that in a binary with a beautiful waterworld, and 2 it is the only station of the 4 that has not just 1 but a pair of the .5 habitation rings which helps with my roleplay. The other 3 don't have rings at all. But in beta, none of that matters so docking at Parkinson is just more convenient and I just got back to test some audio bug plauging Imperial stations atm.

So you can imagine my surprise and somewhat confusion when I see a habitation ring on the back of Parkinson.

It threw me for a bit. I'm like, "Parkinson doesn't have a ring on it. Does it?" It threw me so hard that I booted it up my second account just to check. My T7 on my second account was well over 200 lys closer than my main save but still a little bit of a trip, 13 jumps, but still, I needed to know I wasn't crazy. Sure enough, this is what I saw.

So that's really cool Frontier are doing that to a station that before now. I had little reason to go to other than a 30 second shorter flight in supercruise. Which for me, kinda derails some of my fun just fly my ships sometimes so Adams Market is where I go most of the time. It did make me wonder about the rest of the system but aside from the station interiors I already knew where coming.

Still, I wonder now what other stations are seeing outer upgrades if Parkinson Dock is getting such treatment. Anyone else notice any such changes? Let us know. Get some screenshots if you can and post them here. I'll be looking out for more and throwing them in on this thread as well. Also sorry about the kinda story format of this post. Kinda have a need to add to my roleplay thread atm but I'm dealing with a slight case of writers block atm. :p

Interesting stuff!
Things seem to change randomly during updates.

In 1.4, I used to bounty hunt in a system where the high RES, was always 3ls from the station. The station and res seem synchronised, so they orbited together around the gas giant, but it never got in the way.
I farmed so much money. Lol
Then in 1.5(and 2.0), they began to move differently, the res often ended up the other side of the planet.
Then I left for a while, and did some other things.

When I came back in 2.1, the High and Haz RES's were gone. Lol

I've noticed a few things like that before, the biggest being the smuggling missions in Eotienses oddly enough going from me not even leaving the system in 1.3 and 1.4, to me making jumps out to the surrounding areas in 2.0, to them being removed completely with the mission system restructure in 2.1 that forced me to run missions out of Avalon about 3 to 5 jumps away depending on my ship. But that's mission stuff, FD have kinda always screwed us short range smugglers when trying to tackle the Robigo run issue so that doesn't surprise me at all.

But I never seen just a dramatic change as a station getting a new section added to it in an update. That could even go so far as bringing in future gameplay elements to the system that might not have been there since Parkinson is classed as a Refinery High Tech station. Though atm the High Tech part of that station only applies to the market and not outfiting, it could lead to something once we can walk around in those rings in the future. Maybe that's why it's getting the upgrade?

I'd imagine it's less exotic than that.

They've messed with the models and layouts. And now must reseed the stations based on the procedural formula they used.

Chances are, they will all look slightly different than in 2.1.

That could be it as well. Though like I said, I did check the rest of the system after that and from what I can tell they all look the same as they do in 2.1 so who knows. Still, I think it's pretty cool. I hope it means more than a simple reseed. Maybe once we get space legs we'll know for sure

Most stuff is placed by rng and generation not by human. So when they touch algorithm that places stations, planets, res etc there is high change that some stuff will change by accident without that devs meant to do that.

An example of how they want stations and such to grow I believe, right now I think it is handled mostly manual unfortunately so it isn't as dynamic as we'd like, but I'd like to think that eventually stations and such will be upgrading and downgrading appropriately according to their economy, maybe doing something special if times are rough, turning off parts of the station, and over times those parts get neglected?

That said
Hutton Orbital is becoming an Orbis station in 2.2 too :)

Which I'm pretty sure is a bug. Teaka got messed up a lot, stations moved and turned into outposts all over the System, but they fixed it now.

If it isn't as it was, assume a bug and report it. Should it actually be an intended change the bug report sure doesn't hurt.

It appears that Hutton Orbital may be getting an upgrade from outpost to station. That would be nice. #ForTheMug!

Lol, fly out there and check.

Ha. They could put a station made out of gold that gave me free real world vodka once I got there and I still wouldn't fly that far... Okay I probably would for free vodka

I've been there more than a few times - the first time just running a mission before I even knew what it was. I'd jumped several times before jumping into Alpha C. and tried to jump again when I saw the distance to Hutton registering in light years without realising that I'd have to fly it all in SC:eek:. I went there 10 times for the Scrap-for-Mugs CG (reinforcing my wife's view that I'm crazy:rolleyes: - and nowhere near a record), twice for the Hutton Truckers "MODs" trip - first time was practising collecting and dropping cargo for a T9 to scoop as they were too large to dock there, second time for the MODs run - I got shot to pieces on that one and made the final jump on emergency oxygen:mad:. I go there each time I've wiped my save (and always rejoin the Hutton Truckers). I load up with Mugs and Gin and make a pilgrimage to Sothis from there.

If you're bored while flying there, you can always listen to Hutton Orbital Radio:- :D:D:Dhttp://huttonorbital.com/:D:D:D.

Frontier loves to hold back on the little patches, fixes, and upgrades that have been ready for months, until they can make their grand entrance. All Hail the Drama Queens! :)

Then, they stealth them into the main game, during the Beta's, so nobody who is is important is watching.

What make a station build rings? I guess it's the number of people in the system but I
Not sure about the mechanic.

A while ago, Faust 68 had either a High or Haz res right next to the station (3ls or so). In 1.5, there is only low and a normal there. I know that feeling!

Hate to break it to you but that's a propeller not a habitation ring. [haha]

"Ducted fan", not propeller. :p

Anyway, OP, congrats on having your home system upgraded. Stations get changed a bit in almost every update, I believe.
I deliberately avoid my home system in beta, so I can experience the changes live. :)
