Interesting PAX East Write Up

Hey Commanders,

I saw David Braben posted this article on Twitter last night and it had a couple of quotes in it that drew my attention:

The team has mentioned that they are planning huge ship designs that allow large groups to share crewing duties in a way that has never been seen before in a game.

Hmm, more to multicrew than meets the eye?

This is not even the end of the season, there is still an unannounced 2.4 version that the team hinted would bring some amazing concepts to the game.

Although we know nothing about 2.4 yet, but it sounds as if it could be interesting. It would be really good if Frontier would share more.

Obviously, it is easy to write this off as journalist hype, but because it came from DBOBE, it kind of adds some credibility to the statements. Thoughts anyone?

I just hope 2.4 won't have any new "headline" feature like 2.1, 2.2 or 2.3. I would prefer them going actually refining and replacing some of the multiple placeholders we have in game. Wing/mc mission, srv in MC, new srvs, changes to cz/res sites etc. Now they have change to do it as they haven't promised to deliver some specific stuff. To be honest they probably should use 2.4 to complete 2.3 and make mc fun and useful.

First rule of the internet...never believe everything ye hear ^

When I can see it, Ill believe it but knowing their past history with hype building, Ill refrain from going all weak at the knees ^

My backside. Just saying 'new stuff will be cool' is not enough to create hype, sorry. :p This quote must hurt over at some other forum though:

One of my favorite Space Sim titles was Wing Commander Privateer due to the freedom to play as you want. Elite Dangerous has tapped into that freedom but added mechanics, gameplay, scenarios and a truly organic galaxy that pulls you into the game and universe in a way I was not expecting but greatly appreciate.

When boss asks what you been up to, just tell him "loads and it's gonna be great, innovative and the people will love it"
then he will go away happy thinking we been busy.... sssssh......

if he asks for title of the next release tell him "its secret!" .... ssssssh....

Man, the negativity is strong in this thread

I can see why Frontier don't say much nowadays with this kind of response.

Ever coinsidered their silence might actually be the reason fer it? Catch 22...a situation they created in the first place hence their problem to earn that trust back. What exactly have they done to gain some trust back? More of the same...vague hints and hype trains...this aint the 80s and those tactics havent worked in decades ^

Don't get me wrong. My posting history shows that I am very anti- Frontier's current communication approach. However it is very hard to be positive and want to share information, if all you ever get in response is cynicism and snarking.

What specifically do ye wish to share? Any confirmed details? Or just more hype?

You have attributed the article to David Braben ... I don't see any mention of him; it is by a games author who "met the team." Did he link to it from Twitter?

Edit add - It is a pretty good overview of the game, actually. Very positive.

I am talking from Frontier's point of view. If all they all get is snark, why should they want to bother sharing any information with the "community" until it is about to be released.

That's what my post says: DB shared it on his Twitter account last night.
