Interesting post-destruction observation

I had just left a starport and noticed NCP Sy firing on a ship and rather stupidly decided to get involved. Although I took the target out (who was wanted) I must have opened fire too close the the starport and it wasn't long before I was toast. (my third Asp loss). I did a rebuy and was surprised to notice that my previous course was still locked in. Now why does that not happen with bounty and cartographics data?

CMDR? Hello, CMDR? How are you feeling? Ok, you've had an incident in your ship. Yes, shot down for faffing about in the 'no fire zone'. I trust you won't be doing that again, hmm? Anyway, we managed to salvage the black box from your ship and I've reprogrammed your destination into the replacement. What's that? Bounties? Cartographic data? No, sorry. All gone, I'm afraid. Anyway, your new ship is rearmed and refuelled and you're free to continue your journey as soon as you feel up to it. Good luck and fly safe, CMDR.
(Smiles evilly). Now where's that black box? (Singing) We're in the money. We're in the money...

Don't know about bounties but the obvious answer for cartographics data is to avoid people going to the far side of the galaxy and self-destructing to save themselves the return trip. What makes exploration meaningful is you go far into the black and then come back.

the station wont shoot at you for violating the no fire zone, you only get a fine. It will shoot you if you hit your target before scanning them to find out they were actually wanted, even if the police ships and station is already shooting at it.

Crashland: Sorry to spoil your day but I did not have any other data on board, was just making the point but.... thanks for inputting the route back into my new Asp, saved me a bit of time I suppose.

Puca: Yes I see your point, I suppose I should be grateful that people like Crashland have taken the time to re-input my route data for me - pity they didn't stock up the mini bar as well.

Fergal: I did scan and saw that he was 'wanted' - I presume therefore that I must have accidently straffed one of the Sy craft

I've been too quick to get the kill and shot npcs under fire many times. Hitting the station will also bring its fury.

It just shows how careful you have to be if you decide to engage a target in the 'no fire' zone.

I do it every time the opportunity presents itself - usually worth 40k or so, so it's worth the piddling 400cr fine to get it - easy money.

But woe betide you if you shoot either the station or the old bill by mistake.

Fire control is key here! :)
