Well, got my ship sorted out. More or less.
Such an inconvenient setup, no way to quickly swap modules from one ship to another, or even from STORAGE.
So, a couple of other thoughts.
I'm disappointed that I can't get up and walk inside my ship... at least in the COCKPIT. I mean, I start to stand up, and there's a black loading screen and I'm outside the ship. They might have at least let me get up and go to the door to leave the ship. But, I kind of knew that was going to be the case.
I'm disappointed that I seem to have lost my teal coloured flight suit, the one I've been wearing for years. I'm back to default black, and I can't even buy just the colour I want, they insist I spend thousands of points on buying numerous outfits. God forbid I want to put together an outfit of actual clothes, I have to buy the jacket and SLEEVES separately, and can't buy only the colour I want... no, I have to buy all of them. Very disappointing.
My UI is not only hard to use now, and ugly, it's also rather DARK.
FPS in general is suddenly really, REALLY bad.
It's really nice getting to walk around the station interior, even if it's a limited area. Unfortunate that there's nothing to DO there. I went to the bartender, and to my surprise, he doesn't sell DRINKS. Also made me realize there seems to be no 3rd person view. Would be nice to see the outfits we're expected to spend thousands and thousands of points on.
I'm a bit underwhelmed at the moment. I've only played through the tutorial first person shooter scenario, and I can't say was was impressed all that much. A lot of minutiae to keep track of, shields, power, tools, weapons, ammo... and not very intuitive controls or UI. More, the combat was kind of frustrating. The laser rifle I had sprayed fire all over the place, rarely hitting what I was shooting at, and did almost nothing to the enemies when I DID hit them. Meanwhile, they were constantly lobbing grenades, over and over and over. A little obnoxious, really.
It's an Alpha state, as I understand it, even though it's launched now. I expect things will improve over the coming months, so I'll reserve judgement for the time being. However, for the moment, I'm not impressed.
