Internal/External or Left/Right Panel?

So, one of the things we learned in the release livestream is that the panels we tend to call 'Left' and 'Right' in the HUD are now called 'Internal' and 'External'

These names make sense, and describe what they contain (never realised myself!). Should we start using these terms as well 🤔 All the 'oldies' know them as Left / Right, and I guess new people will also understand Left / Right ? (Plus 'Left' is less typing). I guess one of the problems with adding help is having to give names to things :)

Huh?

So far, all these Panels are Internal (?)

Unsure what an "External Panel" should be (did only skim through the Livestream), so I'll keep sticking to the existing scheme of Left/Right etc.

Nav points - external, missions ... point to external locations, contacts - external to the ship

Cargo - internal, Ship config - internal, faction statuses - doh - external!, permits ... hmm - I guess they struggled with the naming :)

So yeah left / right make sense. They talk about Internal / External around 0:33:00ish, but only in passing.

So why is Powerplay and Galnet on the Internal panel? Surely they are external?

Well, PP / Galnet are just links to other fullscreen modes, and that tab is about player status, so makes sense under internal. Though they're not as clear cut as some. Also looking at the bottom of the HUD that also goes External -> Internal - heh neat :)

The funny thing was Powerplay was on the external panel before the UI was fiddled with....

left = oogimaflopsit

right = thingymabob

just like all the other other TLAs and shizzle i cant remember,

chemical whatnots
Pharmacutical dingdongs
manifold doodars

*takes another screenshot to remember what the hell it is im looking for.

i think left and right will do thanks...

Except everyone already knows them as left and right.
It's easy for experienced players and new ones, especially when the former is instructing/advising the latter.

Except "left panel" and "right panel" aren't very descriptive of what their function is. In the tutorials, being descriptive is key.

And the tutorial calling the left panel "external" isn't going to confuse a player when somebody says "your left panel", because it's on the left.

WHOOT!?

And I thought it's the NavPanel, the ComsPanel, the ModulesPanel ... and the downards one, the unnecessary panel. I always call them like that, I though everyone does that.
