International Rescue in Elite (or is it Intergalactic Rescue?)

Hello CMDR's,

I started a new CMDR a little while ago and I wanted to do something a little different. I was thinking of focusing on search and rescue.

I am trying to get enough money to put together a good search and rescue build based on a Federal Dropship and then head to areas with Thargoid combat and try to rescue pilots that have ejected from their ships. Does anyone else focus on this style of gameplay? Any tips? What other areas should I go to engage in rescue operations?

I could also have a separate ship to rescue passengers from burning stations, but I am very familiar with that form of gameplay.

I have literally never done anything with the search and rescue agent, and it seems like it could be fun though it seems from my cursory research there is no money in it. I am just looking for new forms of gameplay to tide myself over until 2020.

Yep, love the Rescue stuff.
Station Passenger Rescue.
Station Salvage/Rescue.
Megaship Rescue/Repair.
Also a little bit of Scout bashing on the side (using a Rescue ship).

Doesn't pay well, but I enjoy it.

You can paint your ship in a bold color and use the Ship ID to spell out RESCUE in big, bold letters, too !

This is where I would hope the "new format" CGs would come in to play - bringing together lots of different kinds of ships that specialize in different tasks. Maybe for Rescue and Repair for one ?

Big ships with cargo escorted by fighters, and Rescue ships for ...well, rescue !

Sounds like a lot of enthusiasm for this kind of game play. I can't wait to get the money to build my Dropship now. Dodging Thargoids to rescue pilots in peril. Should be fun!

Frontier, where are the rescue paint jobs and decals? Make the search and rescue agent pay decent money? This is an area of game play that is ripe to be enhanced with very little effort while we wait for 2020.

A while back I was doing some BGS work in a system and fitted an FDS (great ship for it) out to handle any USS that might pop up, which pretty much just meant adding fuel and repair limpets. I've done a lot of distress calls with it is about all. As others have said, it doesn't pay much at all. I know some systems have megaships or whatever where you can hack and then release escape pods, but I'm not sure if those are hand placed or what.

Personally I prefer Evac Ops with Search and Rescue. Outfitting and Modding my ship to handle going into a burning station is kind of fun.

Balancing between getting distance with my FSD and shedding thermal load strangely work well together. A good set of Thrusters with all that won't hurt either. As a matter of fact, I place my Thrusters at the top of my priority list of traits for a good Evac ship.

A couple of great gems so far are both Kraits, Orca, both ASPs, Python, and Anaconda.

The larger ships work well with duel purpose. You can outfit them with cargo space and limpet controllers to collect inside the bay area before landing and filling your passenger compartments. Double down on your profit margins as far as Search and Rescue goes.

As a side note, ships with their core modules outfitted for this kind of work also work well for Salvage work around the bubble.
