General / Off-Topic International Women's Day

Today is International Women's Day, I just wanted to say I hope all the women in your families and on this forum have a wonderful day. You deserve it for all the things you do and the amount of difficulty (adversity) you have faced in the world and on your journey towards equality in every day life, and in the work force. #BeBoldForChange

IWD 2017 campaign theme: #BeBoldForChange
For International Women's Day 2017, we're asking you to #BeBoldForChange.
Call on the masses or call on yourself to help forge a better working world - a more gender inclusive world.
Submit your #BeBoldForChange action via the IWD website.

International Women's Day as a vehicle for change, is it possible?
Last year, organizations and individuals around the world supported the #PledgeForParity campaign and committed to help women and girls achieve their ambitions; challenge conscious and unconscious bias; call for gender-balanced leadership; value women and men's contributions equally; and create inclusive flexible cultures. From awareness raising to concrete action, organizations rallied their people to pledge support to help forge gender parity on International Women’s Day (IWD) and beyond.

But the World Economic Forum predicts the gender gap won't close entirely until 2186. This is too long to wait. Around the world, IWD can be an important catalyst and vehicle for driving greater change for women and moving closer to gender parity.

What if the world truly stepped up to take bold action?
Will you #BeBoldForChange on International Women's Day 2017 and beyond by taking groundbreaking action that truly drives the greatest change for women.

Each one of us - with women, men and non-binary people joining forces - can be a leader within our own spheres of influence by taking bold pragmatic action to accelerate gender parity. Through purposeful collaboration, we can help women advance and unleash the limitless potential offered to economies the world over.

We have urgent work to do. Are you ready to #BeBoldForChange this IWD 2017 and beyond?

I don't like IWD for the same reason I don't like Christmas.

"Oh, Christmas! Let's spread the love and peace through the world! Oh, Women's day! Look how underappreciated they are! We love you, women!"
"Good now that it's done, let's be normal ignorant jerk for the rest of the year, again."

If people were normal sentient beings, they shouldn't need a bank holiday and festivities to remind them how to be nice.

Days like today are for men who believe in equal rights to remind the other sentient uprights they should get on the bus. This morning as I wished my mother in law and my wife to have a good day (notice I didn't say happy) my father in law was in the background screaming about how men don't get a men's day, and that its not fair etc. he went on a full rant that included putting both my wife and mother in law down, and all the usual women-have-their-place carpet of . Pretty much summed up why they deserve a day and how weak some men are being unable to see the point or benefits.

Though I agree with you. We just aren't there yet.
