Internet connection. How good does it actually need to be?

So obviously the lack of an offline mode has raised concerns from those with slow connections. But how good a conection do you really need? I'm guessing open play would need something pretty good but what about solo online?

How online is it compared to open and how does it compare on connection speed required?

Good question - be careful that's a bit close to establishing facts standard practice around here seems to be to jump to a conclusion.

I would love to play in the all group with other players unfortunately my internet can't handle it. However solo online is fine for me so that's how I'll be playing. Really hope the minimum requirements for solo don't increase for full release.

Solo online is fine for me, with 5-6Mb down and 300Kbps up. Online open is a mixed bag; supercruise is fine, but in the sub-light gameplay it's a mixed bag. I rarely get that many other players in my instance any more, 2 or 3. Back in the day when you could find 5+ it was a laggy, rubber-bandy experience. I wonder if the reason I don't see any more than 2 or so is that Frontier have tuned that limit to ensure my gameplay experience...?

I'm in New Zealand about as far away as you can get. It was a little unpredictable but as of beta 3 it has been very stable and am playing in open constantly now.

I have pretty poor broadband at home, I can't watch youtube at 720p, and I can't watch twitch. But E:D plays fine, no noticeable difference from when I play from other places with better internet.

Currently I've got around 400k/s down and 1.5k/s up (rural, so terrible infrastructure)... Solo is absolutely fine. Open has a d/c around every 30-45 minutes, but is playable when it is on. Strangely if I use a 3G connection (800 down and 30 up for me) it's far less reliable.

This is typical scenario with most games which have any sort of online element to them. It's patchy, but not unplayable.
