Interstellar Factors Missing

Not sure if I'm posting this in the right forum.

This evening I needed to make a quick trip to an IF to pay off some bounties. I arrived at Bunda to find the one I've used before at Faraday Ring is gone completely (not marked 'disabled' like the black market currently is, just gone). So I tried another that I was aware of and that has gone too.

Do IF facilities simply come and go, or is this a bug somewhere in the system?

I'm guessing that they could come and go, as they rely on one of two states being present. Either the system that they are in is a Low Security system, or the station they are at is controlled by an Anarchy faction, regardless of system security level.

So potentially, if a system changes from low to medium security, then any IF present would no longer be there, or if a station in a medium security system changes hands from an anarchy faction to a non anarchy faction then the IF there would go.

That said, I have no idea whether FD have programmed IF to come and go...

IF will show up at any Low-Security systems, or ports held by Anarchy factions.

Bunda unfortunately has changed hands so its not longer got one as its a High Security system.

You can't change the visible Security level of a System in the System map, unless that feature was implemented with the latest patch and I completely overlooked it in the patch notes. If so please someone give me the link to such.

You can, its just not easy.

Orrere is a good example as it was Low sec yesterday but its Medium today.

Certain states increase (Lockdown) or decrease (Unrest, War) the security level. If a system is on the borderline, then those states will change the security level temporarily, and this will (tick-related propagation delays aside) be visible on the Galmap both in security mode and in "has IF" mode.

This happens routinely in Colonia where almost all the systems are *just* above the threshold for Medium security - if the controlling faction gets into a War, the security level drops to Low, and IF services open.

Conversely, Colonia itself is just below the threshold for Medium security, so normally is Low security and has an IF service. But, if Jaques goes into Lockdown, the IF closes - not just at the stations which Jaques controls, but also at the ones Colonia Council controls - as the security level rises to Medium.

I guess it must be dependant on the region you're in. We've been in Denton Patreus (and recently Zemina Torval) exploited Systems and had several Civil Wars and Wars over the span of the last 2 years.

The security Level never changed in any of the Systems we had the armed conflicts in, hence why I always get the big question mark on my forehead when reading about it.

Only two of our Systems are Low Security, the rest are High and Medium. When the next War goes off somewhere with the controlling MF I'll keep a lookout and see if anything changes.

Security levels do fluctuate depending on state.

The best way to keep an IF office open in your locale is to back an anarchy faction to take over a station and keep it there.

I suspect what happens is that the three security bands are pretty wide, so most of the time you don't get a visible change - our Mediums go down to Low on War/Unrest, but don't go up to High on Lockdown, for example. Probably most systems are not near enough a border to be affected.

Yes, we usually can figure it out, as stated above: if an IF you used to use suddenly disappears, it's usually because (a) it was an Anarchy, and law and order have arrived and overthrown the anarchy government and exiled the IF permanently, or (b) the system has gone into Lockdown, or some other state which (temporarily) increases Security, which has pushed the system above the threshold which IFs will tolerate. I believe PowerPlay powers can also affect Security, so if the system has changed PowerPlay hands, this too can expel (or create) an IF.

In the case of the long-ago OP, it was an overthrown Anarchy government, as noted in post #3. In the case of the convenient non-Anarchy Low-Sec Large-landing-pad system near my base of operations, it seems to have been a PowerPlay annexation that caused the IF to disappear.
