Good read. :)

Pertinent point from David.

More than 100 staff continue to work on Elite Dangerous, a massively multiplayer space epic in which players take control of their own spacecraft in a cutthroat galaxy. The number indicates that Frontier has some big surprises in store for players, but David is coy.
“We’ve got some amazing things to come in Elite Dangerous, which we haven’t talked about yet,” he says. “There’s also the ‘Beyond’ series of updates, which are lovely in their own right. We have a long future planned for Elite – it’s very exciting.”

This is probably the 'stuff' i've been waiting for (while using D3DFFE for my Elite hit) to get to look into finally starting my ED journey proper :D

And with comparison to NMS with their tiny staff count (dozens vs the hundred on ED) i really, really hope FD are going to knock it for six.

Confirmation here that the game is dead !

They couldn't knock a nail into a plank of wood without it requiring 5 different hammers, 12 variations of newton physics and 19 bug fixes.

"Look at Elite Dangerous. It’s now in its fifth financial year since it was released and every day there’s been a new story in the game, every week there’s been new content. Roughly every quarter there’s been an update. A lot of those have been free, some have been paid."

I too, enjoy a stiff cocktail or two... or seven...

In a world where ammmmaaaaazzzing is the only descriptor ever used anymore and everything is exciting, I'm not going to hold my breath. I'll take a couple of those drinks though.

Cheers to that, I may not make it to work tomorrow.

These interviews aren't saying much really.

But David does seem to be putting himself out there right now which makes me think that there's a build up to something (though I'm not sure what). Yeah I know Gamescom is coming up but I'm expecting that to be a bit of a damp squib as far as news about ED is concerned.

The recent interviews seem to be about Frontier generally, it's like they're trying to sell themselves as a company right now rather than any specific product.

Maybe it's either :

- JWE has been released and they're trying to attract more work
- They are trying to attract talent

“It really builds a community because the game is continuing to change.”

My takeaway :
- every day there's been a new story in the game (??!) More like once or twice per year on average. Does he mean GALnet Articles by any chance? I have no other explanation.
- every week there's new content (Eh what?) There's only new content after a Client Update, typically after major Updates. That's normally once per Quarter. Or what Game is he referring to, did the Interviewer mix something up?
- more than 100 staff continue to work on Elite Dangerous? Not seeing that, not since a long time. Maintenance mode. I guess those "100" work on other projects most of the time, otherwise I wouldn't know what they're doing.
- David is always coy, nothing new. "Winter is coming(tm)... sometime... maybe. No ETA, no promises, no guarantees" ;) [He's a good salesman at it, can't argue with that. He's a shareholder. Enough said.]
- Company as a whole is doing very well and will introduce new titles. Which means Elite is likely to repeatedly encounter idle phases and maintenance mode where the main regular updates are Store items and sales.

Good for FDev, potentially not-so-good for Elite.

They've all been working on Crime & Punishment.

I think these interviews are less for us, the gamers who play the games, and more for the investors and shareholders. It’s all rainbow and unicorn vague speak with little actual detail with regards to the actual game content. It’s for people who don’t really know much about the actual games but are more interested in Frontier as a company and business.

Reading it in that light makes it much more fathomable.

Just imagine - The model Cobra standing in the middle of a room, around it, a 100 people making a huge pentagram and chanting necromantic stuff.

Meanwhile, DB in the office to the reporter: "Yeah, we're working on it, it looks great"

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
I'm happy that Elite is doing well by FD's own metrics, and that they continue to not only support it but actively develop and improve it.

That said, I'm still waiting for the next 'big' announcement of legs and/or atmo planets, and the already discussed major gameplay improvements. I don't question FD's support or love for their game but I do want to see actual large improvements and additions sooner rather than later.

Aye that.

Hehe...

Maybe most of them aren't Coders or Devs. Maybe they're mostly bureaucrats manning the Offices :D

(Example footage demonstrating the approval and verification process of minor code changes)

Or what if David hits the Office every few days... and it turns out he's into Vogon Poetry? Maybe reads to the whole team for a few hours? That'd explain the snail-paced development...
