Newcomer / Intro Intimidated by Thargoid side of the game

Hi,
I have thoroughly enjoyed all other aspects and flavours of the game but there is so much of a focus upon the Thargoid side of the game. I would like to dip my toes into Thargoid gaming but I am completely lost and intimidated. I have no idea of where to start and how. It seems to me that there is a much gentler learning curve with most other sides of the game - mining, guardians, Haz zones etc. but with the Thargoid side it seems so much more immediate.
Any sensible suggestions would be welcome. I am not short of cash and I have an engineered Chieftain and Krait 2 that I can use. I am dangerous in Combat but all NPC haz and pirate etc.

If you look in the Thargoids/Guardians section of the forum theres tons of interesting topics and a lot of folks far better at that stuff than me to offer advice.

Wow. Where to start indeed. I am not what I would consider a Xeno expert or combateer. Still...

Early during this war, I took my Python armed trader to an invaded system, flew around outside a starport that was still in operation, and just shot at the scouts there along with other CMDRs and NPCs. It's about the easiest, safest combat scenario (not the only one!). It's rather safe; scouts aren't hard to kill (no, I had NO anti-xeno weaponry*) and you can duck into the port for repairs and ammo.
There is some reward too. The scouts drop thargoid Mats so bring your ship with some collector limpets. It's fun.

Well before this war, I also went out to some of the Thargoid areas and dropped in on lower-number NHSS-es. I could do some battle with the scouts, pick up goodies and escape easily in my 350m/s Python. If too many were in the instance or a foe that I didn't want to engage showed up, I just bailed. I also visited Thargoid sites with rather little risk, however...
At the moment, these two activities aren't nearly as safe because I believe that you WILL encounter hostile Thargoids in pretty much any system of theirs. I have traveled along the edges of Thargoid space recently and almost always gotten hyperdicted and/or interdicted. Even in my non-combat T-7, though, I have managed to escape - so far!

I really like my Chief. If you're piloting one, it's way faster than my Python so you could escape reliably, I would say. Jumping to distant star systems in a Chief isn't a great activity so I recommend traveling in a better ship for that and just transferring the Chief there when you arrive. I should take my own advice and try that. I think in my Chief I could fly circles around them. The Chief is a cheap rebuy too!
Have fun!

No need to be intimidated, thargoid combat also have multiple levels of difficulties. I recommend you start with some Scout hunting, using builds from the AXI website, then moving to Interceptors when you feel comfortable.
