[Into the Void] Exploration mission & log

Greetings fellow CMDRs,

I know it's my first post in the forums, but please bear with me. I've only acquired the game a few months back and I've been itching to get out of the bubble. I've always wanted to go to the stars as a kid and this game gave me the opportunity for it. I've been exploring in my sidey a little out of the bubble and when I got some credits, I decided to defy the masses and start my real journey, on a Type-6.

I fitted a Lakon Type-6 Transporter for exploration, and started my journey which, for now, I'll call "Into the Void". If anyone as had a journey with that name, please let me know, I'll gladly change it.

I only have a few hours each day because of work, but I'll post all development I can make daily (when I can).

Into the Void:

I thought that Lakon's Type-6 was a really good candidate for exploration for it's great jump range (27.69LY on full Tank) and being a cheap and sturdy ship.
Here's the outfitting: http://coriolis.io/outfit/type_6_tr...-2u04v60f442i2f.AwRj4zTI.Aw1-kA==?bn=ManOfWar

My ship is the Type-6 Man Of War, in tribute to Portuguese Sailors in the 15th to 18th century's age of discovery.

I started my journey far from Sol / Starting system, which was at Eranin, Edmund Mahon controlled space. The journey began at the system Bactondinks, in the Shajn Terminal.

The path I'll take is a bold one.
Hence the name Into the Void. I'll be traveling from here to the outer arm of the galaxy (south) and follow it to Sagittarius A*. From there I'll grab the next arm and follow it to reach Beagle Point.
After reaching Beagle Point, the path goes onward to the next arm of the galaxy again in the direction of Sagittarius A*.
I have no idea how long this will take, since I only play a couple of hours each day, but the point of the mission is to have fun and to explore this amazing place Frontier has created for us!

Instead of flooding the Thread with pictures I'll just link the Dropbox folder I've created for the mission.

All pictures are taken HighRes, since it doesn't take any time for my rig to render them. I've only been taking a couple of pictures every time I find anything interesting. Tell me if you think I should take more or less pics. :)

All my journey is being recorded with EDiscovery, but I've noticed it doesn't record the stars/worlds I scan, I've been recording them by hand. Any suggestions regarding this? Is it even possible?

Hope everyone enjoys my development. If there's anyone out there doing the same as I am, be sure to let me know so we can meet up and record it.

Feel free to leave your opinions and suggestions regarding the mission.

Best of luck commander!

With regard to your EDDiscovery question. I don´t believe there is any tool that was automagically add scanned worlds for you but you might take a look at Captains Log as this has many of the features that EDDiscovery has but makes adding scanned bodies a simple click for each one.

Congratulations on avoiding the usual rookie mistakes new explorers do when building their ships, other than having guns the build looks good with a few minor exceptions - one, the 3E shield is heavier and weaker than a 3D, and the price difference is negligible so I suggest a swap there on your next opportunity (assuming your next trip will be in the same ship, of course). As for the sizes and ratings of your fuel scoop and AFMU, I assume these are there for financial reasons; if not, I'd put at class 5 scoop on, best rating you can afford.

As for the guns, a Type 6 lightened up for exploration, armed with weak shields and 2 class 1 laser pointers isn't something you want to fight in when loaded with data (which you lose in case you die). This ship will not fight well, nor was it ever designed to, and it won't take too much punishment either. My suggestion to you should you get into a scuffle on your way back - high wake out. IMO that's the only sensible thing to do and as such, those guns are just weighing you down, may as well take them off in favor of additional range.

But, the build you posted will work for the first ever trip, so good luck, have fun, and I hope you enjoy exploring :)

Thank you very much :D

Exactly that. I had no more credits (apart from insurance) :p And to be honest I totally forgot to remove the lasers and change the shield :C
Shields are turned off during my journey, I turn them on only to take screenshots out of FSD / planetary landings.

I've been a little busy and away from the game, because my job takes way too much time off my life, but I'll be back uploading screenshots and info about the journey soon.

Scoopy Doopy, regarding your suggestion, thank you. I've taken a look at it, but since I'm a vegan ( regarding exploration ) I'll just write down an Excel Spreadsheet about everything I encounter. I'm not out there to make credits, I'm out there to explore and have fun :)

Thanks for the feedback. I'll keep posting news
