I have been reading a lot about bird keeping and the steps that are needed to have mixed species in the same (and appropriately large) bird cage. Doing all this research reminded me how cohabitation works in JWE2 with the dinosaurs, as there are certain finches that could cohabit well with other species, while other finches that are slightly aggressive, or completely aggressive towards other species.
One interesting note is how birds are meant to be introduced into a cage, the most notable being how finches should be brought into pairs so that they could rely on one another and reduce the chances of being bullied by other birds, and how you could also change the layout of the cage so that birds that have established their territory would feel like they are in a new territory altogether, which allows for the birds to establish new boundaries all at once and not alienate the new members.
I think this could be a feature for our dinosaurs in JWE3, where introducing new members could require more steps depending what species the animal is.
So for peaceful herbivore species like hadrosaurs, they could be introduced into their enclosure with other hadrosaurs of the same species and it won't take long for them to be part of the herd.
Armored herbivores on the other hand may need more time, where the animal would be close to the herd but not be recognized as a member until they are approached by the alpha, so there is a small period of time where the animal may feel lonely, and may prefer to be introduced in pairs so the experience could be less uncomfortable.
Small pack animals like velociraptors may need to be enclosed in a small enclosure near the main one, as introducing them immediately would cause the established raptors to kill off the new member, so a bit of time is needed for them to get to know one another, while being safe from one another.
Large carnivores may be more open to new members if they are comfortable enough and well fed, as introducing them to one another in during uncomfortable times or at a hungry state could cause them to fight.
I think it would be fun if there is a mechanic that would have players figure out how to introduce new animals to an established enclosure. Nothing too complex, but something special when it comes to certain species within the roster.
