Hello, all. Alex Harrow with the Order of the Burning Serpent here.
I have come to write to you all regarding Harrow Labs, a discord dedicated to Elite writers, loremasters, and creatives of all stripes. lemme answer some questions...
What exactly is Harrow Labs?
We are a simple Discord dedicated to helping writers of Elite
angerous fiction. As a writer, i found that I ran into two problems consistently. Problem one was that I had a very small pool of fellow writers I could bounce my stories off of to improve. I wish to have people capable of proofreading and applying constructive criticism, so that I can make the most entertaining story possible. My second problem was the lack of accessibility in established Elite fiction, both with canon/noncanon material and what players have already created in-game. I know what I know, but don't know what I don't know, ya know? Both problems can be remedied by a larger pool of writers who work within Elite fiction.
As such, I think it is in the interest of other writers to come together and counter these problems together.
While this is the most important aspect of the Harrow Labs discord, I also would like to see it become a place for people to discuss and plan ways and methods to make Elite fiction more accessible. This secondary goal of Harrow Labs would require time, planning, and the interest of a talented group of people. More on that would come much later when our ducks are in a row. if interested in that, reach out to me, but for now, Harrow Labs functions as a basic salon for writers and creatives.
Is this a part of another faction? do I have to join anything?
While this project is under the umbrella of the Order of the Burning Serpent, no one is required to join any new faction or leave old ones. In fact, quite the opposite is true: we wish to hear the voices of major factions, power play groups, and notable commanders. Harrow Labs is designed to be a place free of politics, and welcomes everyone of every background to not only contribute, but represent your wing or faction and their lore.
Am I required to do anything?
There is no requirement for contribution or participation of any kind. Though it would be rad if you could lend your lore based expertise or contribute your writing experience, you won't have to do much of anything you don't want to. The only requirement of any kind is to provide a link to your published writing in order to participate in proofreading and critiquing channels.
Alex Harrow I am not a badass writer like you who jots down baller ass ideas and gets all the ladies. can I still join?
Of course, guy I just made up! in fact, i am a terrible writer, and I started the thing! Think of it as a gym, in which everybody goes to exercise, including people who are starting at day one. we should all be working on turning each other from pillsbury weaklings into STUNNING HARDBODIES.
What if I make videos, audio plays, art, or comics? What if I don't write at all but can help with creative stuff? what if I just like to watch, Alex Harrow? what if I just like to watch?
The more the merrier. Though we have few people involved in production of things other than writing (as of today), we absolutely would love to invite creatives, production types, and researchers of all kinds who would benefit from mutual discussion regarding storytelling and Elite lore in general.
Are there rules of any kind?
Well, really only one loose rule: don't do stuff that would make a reasonable person leave.
criticism of stories can be sought, and when it does, it should be unspoken that that criticism ultimately be constructive. Some people will write in styles or on topics others may not like, but the goal of this project is for writers to get better if they want it, and so, it is the writers job to have a thick skin, and a proofreaders job to provide the best help they can to the writer's project. besides that, and the fact that Harrow Labs is neutral in all faction/pp matters, there aren't terribly many other rules.
SO WITH THAT, here is the link to our Discord. if you have any questions, feel free to message me here or via Discord. thank you.
