Introducing the Diamondback Explorer

Not sure if this has been sighted by anyone else: -

If you are a beta player you may have already seen the Diamondback Scout, but have you seen the Diamondback Explorer?

The Diamondback Explorer (picture foreground) was the ship featured in the concept art in Newsletter #70 back in April. This is a long range combat and exploration-leaning craft, sitting somewhere between the Cobra and the Asp. The Federal military wanted a cheaper, cut-down/smaller ship, and that became the Diamondback Scout, to use as a small multi-role attack and assault ship. The Scout (the smaller ship seen at the rear of the image) is also available to players, priced below a Cobra.

The Diamondback Explorer will appear in the latest Powerplay beta build.

Awesome! The Scout didn't quite live up to expectations, even though it was still a cool ship. Let's hope the Explorer has some better exploring stats.

The stats will be interesting, but it does show that Frontier do listen!

If anyone is currently in Beta, care to spill the beans regarding the stats and possibly the odd screenie?

Thanks & Regards

I'll give it a go this evening about 7pm UK ('United' seems to be a distant memory...) time. Will take screenshots and if I can work out how to post them here I will.

More like ignore the complaining because we knew what was coming :p

A multi variant of a ship sort of makes sense and is a great addition. It would be great if more variants of existing ships could become available as well :)

But either way - more ships in any form is a welcome thing :)

This is more of a variant in name only, the geometry, although similar is actually different. It's essentially a whole new ship and thus it takes as long to make as any other ship would. Basically it's not just a diamondback with different stats if that's what you're thinking by variant ships.

Its plain to see a fair amount of work has gone into it, the model is noticeably different for one. Really great news though even if it was just a scout with different stats.

I thought it was a "new ship" - In game play terms I sort of saw it sharing some of the build components but had key "new" components for the role it was being tweaked for. I understand it is to the programmers a whole new ship, but it adds feeling and depth and I like that to the players it is a variant of an existing ship.

Either way - thank you and well done :)

You guys are awesome. Can't thank you enough for the work that went into this.

Yup. That's gonna be my new explorer ship. Someday. How expensive will it be? Can a newbie explorer like me get one or am I destined to be in my Hauler for a long time?
